Which heads to use?

O.k. I posted something like this a couple months ago, but now situations have changed.

I have two sets of heads. I was going to use the 1.88 "J" heads that were on the engine. Of course now that I took them off, they don't look so well.
I do have another set with 2.02 valves that is a "U" head that I could use, but they need to be redone themselves.

Since I have both heads, and they both need to be redone. Which one should I use?

I have read to stick with the 1.88 because of better bottom end, but 2.02's where stock in 340's so how bad could they be??

I'll only have a 3.21 rear end for now too, that should change in the future.

any thoughts?
 
doesn't really matter....IIRC they're pretty much the same thing. if you feel better about the 2.02 intake valve size because you're going to have a higher revving engine than stock, then use those heads....if you plan on having a very mild build with mostly stock parts the 1.88's will be fine.

FWIW: Magnum heads have 1.92/1.62 valves and they were used on stock 318's even.

I still like magnum heads the best out of all stock heads. You may want to look into the Enginequest Magnum heads with the LA intake pattern. Then you'd need some rocker arms (stock magnum ones are OK) and some 7.650" pushrods.
 
I will look into them, however that is more money.
is the 318 Magnum head the same as the one for the 360 then?
 
What size tire are you going to use with the 3.21's and how big of a cam are you going to use?

The 2.02's are much better when reving the engine and making power over 5000 rpm's.
 

UGH! (Sigh) Specs!? Or are we all going to go to the Lunati website to look it up? Why does everybody think everybody knows the specs of everygrind off the top of there head?

Duration @ .050, 220/ 226 - .475 / .494 on a 112 C-line.

IMO, the gear ratio is as low as I would go and the tire size is as large as I would go. The combo of the two will be a decent performer. A stock stall converter should be OK as well.

The heads are of concern. Use the small valve 360 heads with a milling to keep compresion as high as possible. You'll not really need a ratio over 9.0-1.
A performance valve job wouldn't be a bad thing.
Leave the head stock otherwise.
