I've got an engine swap that needs a 2000 RAM Van magnum oil pan- very tiny rear sump (short front to rear).

All the info i can find is about how to put an LA pan on a Magnum for a magnum swap, but i'm going the other way. I have a 360 LA with an LA timing cover. I just need to know if the LA gasket fits or if i need to chop out the front bit (from what i can tell, that's only needed to put an LA pan on a magnum block with an LA timing cover)

again, to clarify: 360LA motor and timing cover, but with a Magnum Pan. -LA gasket? Magnum Gasket with front section chopped for an LA section?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Use the Magnum one-piece gasket, as is.
The engine bottoms are identical, it's the pans that differ- so you just need to use the correct gasket for the pan being used. Magnum pan=Magnum gasket.

So the magnum pan and magnum gasket wont care that it's an LA timing cover?

I was pretty sure i read when using an LA timing cover in a magnum swap, the magnum pan gasket didn't like it and an LA was needed to be cut in.

Nope. The only reason to cut in a LA seal is so it will seal the LA pan.
The LA pan has two "dents" or "recesses" in the front seal area (red arrows):

It is these recesses that require the LA front seal to be cut into the Magnum gasket (or use a ton of sealer there with a Magnum gasket, or just use an LA gasket/seal set), NOT the timing cover that makes a difference.
If you're using a Magnum pan, you don't have these recesses to deal with. So just use the Magnum gasket and move on.
