Hello everyone, I have a 75 Duster with a 6cyl set up but a 440 is waiting in the wings. Which torsion bar whould be the best? The car would be driven on the street and may see the strip once ina while. Thanks Den

Well, MP has Big block A-body bars (.89 diameter) for the factory Darts. I just finished putting a set in my Dart, and it's a huge difference under my small block mill.

I think I would go with the .92 solo bars in your case, if you are wanting to upgrade the handling while putting in the BB. But, I have no real experience to go off of in this case...so it may be best to wait for a BB person to chime in...

I have a 2 pairs of torsion bars that I pulled from a 73-74 Darts. I was told that they are for a big block but my interchange manual shows them for a small block. The are marked 892R and 893L. If these will work for you just make me an offer plus shipping.

Either .920 or .990 bars will work nicely, but you also need to add a sway bar and decent shocks along with upgrading the spring rate at the rear. My son's 440/4sp Dart GT convertible has stock, original 383 bars (great deal back in the late-80s) and a stock 383 sway bar (an even better deal back in the late-80s). Handling is quite good.

My other son has 1.14" torsion bars and a large front sway bar along with a rear bar in his 67 383/4sp Barracuda fastback. He says the ride is not objectionable. I drove it some when it had .990s and it was not bad. Handling is EXCEPTIONAL.

Here is a list of the different torsion bars. These are all for a-bodies only. Included are the mopar performance part numbers (p-part numbers) and where applicable, the OE part # (even ending number is right side--odd is left side---ex. 2535888 is right, 2535889 is left)

.810" 90#/in p5249148 drag bars
.830" 100#/in (2535888-9) slant six bars
.850" 110#/in (2535890-1) slant six w/ air--318 w/o air )
.870" 120#/in p5249149 (2535892-3) 318 w/ air--340 std bars
.890" 130#/in p5249150 383 std bars
.920" 150#/in p5249151 h/d handling
.990" 200#/in p5249152 solo/road race
1.040" 250#/in p5249153 h/d solo road race-oval track
1.090" 300"/in p5249154 oval track 1/4 mi--optional 1/2 mi
1.140" 300#/in p5249155 oval track 1/4 and 1/2 mile

Wanna drive it? 920's
Wanna race it? 830's
Can't decide? Don't change 'em till you are sure....
Or...
Buy both and see what you like best....
(I bought the 920's, I'm chasing Mustangs!) :evil2:

Hey superdart, how different does your car feel now? i'm considering using .89s on my 360 Dart. Currently I have /6 torsion bars in it!

73' Duster 360 ...SS 3000 lb springs in rear Was thinking of using the original 6cyl bars and like 90/10 or 80/20 shocks. Street/Strip. Any ideas if that's bad or good?

I recommend the .890's like I'm running on my 383. I found the .920's to stiff with a good set of shocks.

God I'm all screwed up, I ain't running the .890's I'm running the .870's.

use the .890's i have them and kyb shocks on my 340 demon and they work great!

For all out drag racing, the old Direct Connection book recommended 6 cylinder torsion bars and front shocks that had at least 50,000 miles on them. If you are to drive it on the street mostly, I would use the factory b/b bars at.89. I think Chrysler did their homework and got it right.

I love the .89 bars. I don't have my sway bar installed yet, but it still handles really good. It handled like a boat before, since they were 318 bars with a 360 on them. It doesn't ride hard at all, either.

hello
ihave the .89 in my 318 duster , good driving in german highways at 240 km/h or at steet /strip.with the red konis
