I have a 68 Dart with a 170 cubic inch motor and an automatic tranny. Any ideas on which transmission this may be? Also, the tranny slips terribly. I can barely make it around my cul-de-sac. Any tips or info would be very much appreciated. Thanks, John

My understanding that they put NONE or "darn few" 727's in A bodies, so you undoubtedly have a 904. Get down on the pass. side and see if the side of the pan rail is straight, or has a bulge near the front Easy to see

The gasket at the top left with the bulge is the pass. side 727 pan. The 904 gasket, bottom left, you can see that the matching pan rail is mostly straight

i think only trucks and vans got the 727 but only behind a 225... but sounds like your ready for a rebuild!

but before you do that make sure fluid level is good while warmed up and in Neutral! converter is filled while in N and not in park so it will be low if not...

Thanks guys, that helps. I am not a transmission guy. I will try the fluid level check and let you know. Once again, thanks. John.....
