Lot of good sheriff's out there to name but out of the two on the list it's gotta be the one and only Buford T. Justice.

Has to be Buford T. Justice. My grandfather was the Chief of Police in a small Alabama town. He looked JUST like Jackie Gleason. I calle him Buford and he called me Beatle Bailey because I always wore a baseball hat.

Contains some spoilers!

The one that let me drive 1 more block with beer on my breath to get home 20 YEARS AGO. I wasn't drunk (1 bottle, really!) but it was Mickey's Malt Liquor and that stuff reeked.

Similar situation,...Had just pulled my car outa winter storage and was headed home about 11pm,...not a soul on the road, so's I opened her up to just shy of a hundred,....caught some headlights waaaay back in the distance, but I didn't let up,....He caught me about 2 miles up when I slowed for a stop light,....Man was he pissed,...I explained myself and he let me go despite the almost empty Heineken in the console,...said there was no way I could drive like that if I was intoxicated...

How can we possibly leave off Sheriff Andy Taylor?

And Barney Fife....

I once called a CHP Officer Barney Fife when he was being a jerk about a ticket. He got very PO'ed at that point. I decided not to ask him if Sheriff Taylor gave him his bullet, because he might remember that he had a gun. Yup I went to court and beat the ticket!

Buford Pusser from "walking tall" for me. Have not seen the movie in probably 30 years but I can still see those C-body police cruisers hauling ***.

Voted for Buford T Justice in this pole

Hands down my favorite , Thank you and R.I.P Andy.

Clifton James Blustery a.k.a: Sheriff J.W Pepper in the James Bond movie Live and Let Die 1973

James Arness as Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke, John Wayne as Sheriff John Chance in Rio Bravo, Gary Cooper as Marshall will Kane in High Noon, Gene Hackman as Little Bill Daggett in Unforgiven, Henry Fonda as Wyatt Earp in My Darling Clementine.and John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn although he was a U.S. Marshall.

Hard to pick the best out of this lot and the others already mentioned. All gave outstanding performances and made their characters noteworthy for all time.
