Who knows Detroits? 4-53, 6V-53, etc?

this is the Detroit in my boat not near as sweet as the one above but it is super dependable . it starts every time and runs until i shut it off very important in a boat . it is a inline 6-71 T . 300HP AT 2100 RPM .

put some n91 injectors in it and turn rpms up to 3800 rpm,..get lil bit more than 300 hp outta it...
 
At an earlier time in my life, when I was commercial fishing and working on commercial boats I helped remove the Gardner 8L3B (basically a freight train engine, about 8 feet long and very old technology) from this boat and retrofit a 12v71. I believe the detroit diesel was twin turbo and supercharged. It was a very cool engine.

The Sans Peur...... french for without fear.

In the mid 80's I had a 1974 F250 with a 4-53T, 4-speed with a 3-speed brownie behind it. a tad bit nose heavy. That thing would sure turn heads when driving around a parking lot with main box in granny low and the brownie in 1st. People would look and wonder what the screaming was!!!! Fun at the time but, I'll keep my 2001 5.9 6-speed.

Pop's old 42' fishing vessel, the Ivy, ran two. Loved them as marine and industrial engines. Couldn't stand them in the tractor trailers he drove.
 
Keys to driving a Detroit:

1.) open door
2.) put fingers on door jamb
3.) slam door on fingers
4.) drive pissed off all day
