The Power of the Dog

"There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
...Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie--
Perfect passsion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart to a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits
Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,
And the vet's unspoken prescription runs
To lethal chambers or loaded guns,
Then you will find--it's your own affair--
But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear."

Rudyard Kipling

I don't think I'll ever go dogless again while on this earth. They are truly creatures from "up high". :notworth: :love3:

Here's a pic of mine just because..........

That brings a tear to my eyes. Im sitting here reading this and glancing over at my lab and just can't bring myself to think of a time in the far away future were she won't be with us anymore. Its funny how you can come to love them like your children. In mine and my wifes case this the closest we're gonna get to children for awhile. So she really does mean the world to me.

As far as I know, Turbo is fine and healthy at 130 lbs., but she's with my ex. I haven't seen her in about three years. I just miss her is all. I'll never see her again. :wack:

leave the girl
take the dog

X100.... My "would've been" adopted daughter had totally bonded with Turbo and if it was just between my X and I, Turbo would be here with me right now but what was I to do? Break this little girl's heart? I think I did the right thing...

Ah, nothing like a little pain to make life real.

Gotta love a good dog. Lock your wife and your dog in the car trunk for 24 hours and see which one is truly happy to see you when you open it.........

as I was gone for a three day stay
my two little buddies did not like it that way
They would walk through the house looking for me
in hopes of seeing a ball or a treat

When I returned to be with my friends
They jumped and barked like two babes in a pen
as they thought they would never see me again
A tear in my eye they gave to me
because I new there love is unconditionally

Yeah I'm fine. I was just missing something last weekend and I realized it was Turbo. sigh..... no biggie I suppose. People and dogs come though ones life like a soft breeze on a springtime Saturday afternoon.

Lovely photos and as always pets are the best way to get loyalty and discipline instilled into children and adds a member to your family that makes living at home more enjoyable knowing there's someone other than your partner to greet you with open arms no matter what happens.

Some time after we lost Roxanne I thought back to the day I came upon the liter and picked her out as a pup. I began to wonder, Was the dog a blessing to me or was I a blessing to the dog? I think she enjoyed our time together as much as I did so it really doesn't matter.
