Yep, I've been saying for 10 years that the Dodgers are my team and I hate them for taking the Steinbrenner route to team building. Buying the best players because you can is bad for the game. But I can't undo something that's been part of me since the age of 3, so I'm still pulling for them on every pitch. Only after play stops can I look back and see the big picture.
I told you that when the Blue Jays were founded, my Grandpa became a fan. This was after 40+ years of following the Dodgers. We'd watch games together. I wish we could be enjoying this series together. No matter who wins, I won't be unhappy.
Crazy what the difference between 1919 and 2017 was. In 1919 all the cheaters were banned for life. In 2017 the players were given immunity for telling the truth. Just another instance in how the world has been turned upside down. So if Springer or Bergman or Altuve or Correa, et al (too late for Beltran) get one in the ear from a Dodger pitcher, it rights things a bit.
Not to bring a storm cloud in... but the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the players union. The winter meetings will be interesting with salary cap (and minimums) getting kicked about.

It will be interesting. Many are predicting a lockout at the end of next year after the CBA expires. A salary cap wanted by many clubs will be fought to the end by the union. I don't think anyone can say that a level playing field wouldn't help with competitiveness.
I think what the Dodgers have done by signing these huge, long term contracts are a hedge against a cap. Contracts can't be invalidated in the event of implementation of a cap. It's not unlike how the 49ers went on a spending spree just before the NFL salary cap went into effect.
Playing around with the expansion idea they have may boost some sort of way to allow teams to be competitive sooner.

Don't buy into the media hype about the Dodgers buying a roster. They perennially have one of the best farm systems in baseball. They've traded for and have signed free agent cast-offs that have turned out to be studs. Perhaps coaching had something to do with that. Plus they're not afraid to commit to investing in winning. They payout the highest percentage (or close to it) of their revenue to their players salaries, while most other team owners are tightwads and just want to pad their own pockets. A salary cap may help, but I saw a stat the other day that showed their were more teams in this yrs playoffs that were in the bottom half of revenue paid out to players than teams in the top half. It ain't all about player salaries. Those tightwad team owners will be vehemently against a salary cap.

The Dodgers third base/outfield coach was our neighbor kid when I lived in the desert. I was grown up and gone by the time he got to baseball age. I used to hit whiffle golf balls over the back fence into their pool . Their dad a local LEO, would send the kids in after them and they would throw them back over the fence

I get the anger towards the Astros, but like the Black Sox back then, there may have been players unwilling to "cooperate"?
