I just got my vintage 15 by 8 chrome rallye rims which I plan on putting on my 72 Swinger and I'm planning on putting on 275/60r15 on the back and 225/60r15 on the fronts. And I want to make sure it will be an easy put on without any troubles which I wouldn't think there is but always should check.

I think your going think your going to run in to trouble with that set up. 255-60-15 is about as wide as you will get back there. and a 15X8 is going to be to much for the front.

I have a 215-70-14 on the front of my car and its tight.

Tight fit all around. Should have checked tire and wheel specs, and allowable backspacing 1st before ya pulled the trigger.

absolutely no way u will fit 275/60 x 15 rubber in the rear wheelwell of that car.

They will fit but he will need to move the springs in and run a rim with 5 or 5.5" back spacing.

15X8s probably have 4.5" back spacing. You would be better off with a 15X6" in the front and a 15X7" with 4.25" back spacing in the back. KorryLiss has 255-60-15s on the back of his 70 Dart and its real tight.

Really? Is the scamp wheelwell the same size as a 67-69 Dart wheelwell? Reason I ask that is that 275/60 tires would not go close to even fitting within the wheelwell of my 1970 Valiant Hardtop, which is bodied exactly the same as the 67-69 Dart - from the cowl back it was a Dart, all sheetmetal imported from USA (kinda like your late model GTOs, which are essentially an Australian Holden). It wasnt a matter of a close fit or moving the springs in, the wheelwell just could not accommodate the size of the tire and would have required mini-tubbing. Or are the wheelwells larger on a 70s Scamp?

67-76 Dart and 71-76 Scamp are the same from the cowl back. I have some pictures someplace of a a 70 Dart and a 69 Dart with 275-60-15s on the back but both cars have the springs offset I believe. Theres also a member with a 71 Scamp from NJ here that has 275-60-15s on the back.

Well good thing I checked for the front I actually have 15 by 7 and the rears are 15 by 8 just didn't mention the fronts. So what size you guys recommend for the fronts then and so no 275 for the rear so looks like 2 or 3 sizes down?

On the front a 215-70-15 will work. You may get a 225-60-15 in there.

On the rear a 235-60-15 is a safe bet.

On my 70 Duster, I run 235-60-14 front and 245-60-14 rear on 14x7 Keystone rims with no clearance issues. I just ordered 235-60-15 on 15x7 Tork Thrusts for both ends of my son's Duster, also a 70 and i don't expect any issues.

Dusters have a lot more room in the rear. You could fit a 275-60-15 out back with no problem.

I run a 15" x 8" wheel with 4 5/8 backspace with 245 / 60-15 and have about 3/4" between tire and wheel lip, just enough to get fingers thru when applying a tire shine.

I am assuming the rims have the same 4.5" of back spacing as the 15x8 Wheel Vintiques I have on my car. I have 255/60-15's on the back of my car and the side wall of the tire about 1/2" of clearance to the spring. The 275 is 20mm wider which is .8" 1/2 of which will buldge to the inside. You are looking at about .1" of clearance and the tire will flex side to side more than that going around corners. It is very likely you will be tearing up the side wall. Also, I believe the Swinger has smaller wheel wells than my 68 Baracuda or Dart Sports and Dusters so you may have issues with the wide rim with the tire scraping on the outside edge too.

On my Barracuda a 225/60-15 on a 7" rim with 4.25" of back spacing would touch the bottom front edge of the fender of the wheel that was turned in. An 8" rim would make this worse but the it is going to be a function of the shape of the wheel well. If you try it and it touches be keenly aware that rolling forward will only wear off the paint but backing up the tire will tend to catch the fender and can fold it under (don't ask how I learned that :/).

I went with 215/60-15 on the front and 255/60-15 on the back of my car.

I got 275/60-15s on the back of my '73 dart sport and believe me it is tight. I'm also going to run 205/75-15s on the front(manual steering in the mix). The radial t/a on the rear is 11.1 inches wide on an 8in. rim. I would go that size if you can get the right offset.

that's a 225/60R15 with 15x7 4.125 backspacing. Its tight but it fits without rubbing.

Well dgc333 those are the wheels I just got just didn't know how the name went I got them off ebay for 600 for the whole set. So there exactly like yours so you think 245 would be able to work on the back since it seems the darts have small wheel wells?

I am not real familiar with Darts so I can't sa for sure. You will certainly clear the spring. If you have already purchased the wheels mount one and use a straight edge to see where you will interfere with the wheel well and you should be able to figure out what size tire will fit without rubbing.
