When looking at main studs for my stroker 318 build, ARP makes 2 different ones. One for windage trays and the other without. What exactly would a windage tray improve? Is it worth it?

Thanks. RD

nice to have [unless you have a deep sump that keeps the oil away to begin with]
, if you road race and hit the turns 'g force' get a tray.

it keeps 'trys to keep' the oil in the sump from being pulled up into/onto the crank, resistance/excess oil flying around onto the walls which the rings have to then scrape off..yadda yadda.

so do you need one? no
is it worth it, yeah I think so.

For a mopar Im going to say it does help. Mopars have big cranks, big rods etc. It has been proven by racers that 5 or so qurts can get carried into a sort of vortex around the crank as it spins. Adds weight to the crank etc. Yes I think that a windage tray is very cost effective hp.

If you dont use a deeper pan the windage tray will help. Use the ARP studs for the tray and request the 12 point nuts. Buy the MP (or a used factory) tray. You'll have to enlarge the holes in the tray for the studs, and I open the louvers to about 3/8".
