Wiper woes

Spent a few hours getting the electrical straightened out on the wiper system, the motor now runs, but no wiper movement. This lead me to believe that the wiper transmission is messed up. Both arms move freely, but my question is how do I access the wiper trans? Is the only access point through the wiper motor hole or is there a better way?

What you are working on may make some difference.
I drop the radio to access the pitman arm on the wiper motor.
Only way to access the left wiper pivot is to remove the instrument panel.
