I'm about to rewire my bucket of bolts and want to remove the fire wall connector. I see a few have done this and wondered where you might have bought female/male connectors to do this. I really want to remake the harness out side the car,run the wires and plug it all together under the dash. I have found connectors at a few places but really not large enough to carry the load of a car more seem geared to home electronics 3-5 amp stuff and 18-22 gauge wire. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,Bruce

The best thing to do seems to be to get a harness that completely eliminates the firewall connector, such as Ron Francis or the like. Any connector will be a source of resistance.

Barney there's about 1 million posts on this, do some searching on here. I agree with Rusty, start by reading these good articles

Why ammeters are a problem and how to eliminate them

Headlight relays

Here's a good article on reworking Mopar ammeters to a "look alike" voltmeter. Read all three pages, as it covers several cluster styles

All these cars were under fused and under protected A newer, larger fuse panel is better in many ways, not the least of which is getting rid of corroded 45 year old connectors
