Is there still a WIX filter deal / discount code ?

Several years ago, and it may have been +5 years ago, there was a discount code posted here at FABO.
asking if that is still around.

FYI, Wix filters are now made in China, they look different than older ones.

Are they the go to filter now?

This is inaccurate. They are made globally. That means you might get one made in China, Indonesia, Germany, USA, Canada, Mexico. Globally doesn't mean "all made in China". I just got one yesterday that has "MADE IN USA" right on the filter. Had it not said that, I would have gotten the Motorcraft cross.

Check the stickies in the Mooar General forum.

Agreed. Last time I picked-up a few spares at O’Reilly’s I got two USA filters, and one Asian (can’t remember if it was Taiwan, China…). Fortunately they do say where they are made, and the boxes are easily opened.

I also buy at O'Reilly's and open the box there to check. Not only for Made in USA, but to make sure that I am getting a new, unused, correct filter
I've noticed that the O'Reilly's shelf stockers get a little overzealous with the box cutters too.

FWIW I’ve been cutting open my filters for my 03 ram hemi and daughter’s 4.7 jeep for years. I haven’t noticed any quality differences.

They can be built elsewhere and still be good quality as long as Wix monitors the quality.

Ok the filter I bought was labeled China. A 5/16" steel fuel filter, cheesy as hell compared to the USA filter I had on There.

And others are China also. And you could be buying old stock, the warehouse found an old case and you got lucky.

Keep your eyes open for Chinese filters.

They have factories all over - not just China. I've bought wix fiters recently that were marked Mexico and some some from Germany. Theoretically, they should all be made to the same specs, but who knows.

No, it's not old stock. This is something I know "a little" about. I was in management at Oreilly about ten years ago when WIX went global. We got all kinds of literature on it at the time. WIX is using several factories now all over the world to make their filters. It's not like some CIA secret.

I picked up a Wix filter for my pickup from O'Reillys on the way home today. USA made.

Wix is now owned by Mann and Hummel. They make a lot of filters including Wix and Mobil 1. The quality control is very, very, hit or his. Here is one of their “made in USA” Mobil filters I took off my 318. Good thing it was only on there a short period of time. I will NEVER buy another Wix or Mobil filter.

The best quality filter out there right now is likely the premium guard brand. They are sold under their own labels, but also Napa gold, Carquest premium, microgard select, STP extended and many more. You can normally tell them from the red silicon gasket. They are all made overseas but I’ve yet to see one with a manufacturer defect.

The other good filter is a Champ labs filter sold as Fram endurance, Royal purple, or Amsoil. They have synthetic media that has great filter capabilities and also flow better than the conventional media filters. The only negative is their bypass springs sometimes have waves in them and people claim they leak past. I’ve cut open many of them with waves in spring and the filters were still great. I don’t see an issue with them.

So with all that said, I would look at the Fram Endurance or the Carquest premium. I just installed a Carquest premium on my 408, it replaced a Royal purple.
