Wondering about 68 door handles

I've always wondered why many '68's came with "black" not "chrome" door buttons. Does anyone know why?

No idea, my 68 has chrome, don't think I've ever seen ones with black

Mine came stock black, i have the original order sheet and it doesn't specify, so maybe chrome was optional at that point

I thought all '68 Chrysler products had the black button on the door handles...

As far as I know, all 68s had black, as well as early 69.
The buttons are plastic, btw

Fare as I know all A bodies & B bodies came with black. Not sure about other bodies

The question begs.....why?!
Mine by the way are chrome but my car was built in September of '67.

Cannot say why for sure, but manufacturers make changes from year to year, my guess is they tried to make the door handles cheaper with a black plastic button instead of chrome

They either didn't get the results they wanted or cost wasn't effective, or customer complaints caused them to go back to chrome for the 69 model year

Manufactiurers will do anything to save a penny, when you multiply all the penny here, penny there by the number of vehicles they build a year it adds up to a healthy bonus for someone, no they DONT lower the cost of the vehicle, they just make more money.
