WOOHOO getting a promotion!!

Good deal. Now you can afford to work on your cars!

Drive On! Congrats Sarge.
$650 a month raise? Man, I don't think I even made that a month when I was in. lol.

Wow! 14 points. They must have restructured the points program. I had to make nearly 6000 points to hit E-6
of course that was before 9-11.
congrats man! good luck!

Congrats on the promo Corey, I see your location is America now, that's a big WooHoo.

Holy crap, E-5 to E-6 in less than 14 months? That's fast! Congratulations! At that rate, you'll catch me in a couple years. I was E-5 for almost 4 years, E-6 for 6 years (got in trouble for hazing recruits) and E-7 for 6 1/2 years (slow MOS). Finally got E-8 in January.
My daughter is in the Army, and just picked up E-4. Don't know why she joined the Army coming from a family of Marines and a couple Sailors, but we're proud of her!

Yeah they restructured them alot. It used to be the minimum for E-6 was 450. Now points are figured completely different for poeple tryin got get 5 and people trying to get 6. My MOS has always been the minimum for 6 since we are always in need of them. When I went to the board for my 5 I had 626 points but the points actualy needed were 385. I have been in for quite some time and I am finally getting back on track. Feels really good too. I expect to make 7 on first look as well in 2 years. I don't know too many people that haven't made it in my career field. I have almost 8 and a half years in and I also spent almost 5 years in the National Guard so that count for years in service and I am getting paid for 12 years.

Well if you include my National Guard time I was an E-4 for 10 years to the day. Add to that a 1SG that held a grudge and a Team Leader that blamed the team member for everything and you can see why it took me so long to get past that. After getting away from the bad team leader my 1SG at that time then realized that it wasn't me and then tried everything in his power to make it right. He talked to the CSM and my current 1SG and they all agreed I should go to the board for my 5. Things just kinda took off from there.

Congrats Dusted, glad to hear (read) that things are going your way. Make the best of it!

Congratulations! I thought Obama brought all the troops home from Iraq. I guess he forgot about a few (thousand).

By the way, I wonder whether you have seen the TV program about EOD guys in Afghanistan. I believe it runs on the National Geographic Channel. That's some scary chit there.

There are actually 157 authorized to be in country still. My unit is not included in that number and neither are some of the special guys. The Iraqi government recently discovered that my unit was still here and it started a real **** storm so to speak. We are the ONLY complete unit here still. And we were hand picked by the Sec Def to stay and carry out the mission of protecting the US Embassies and Congents that are over here. It is all settled now and we have our Visas allowing us to stay. But our time here is coming to an end very soon.

I don't see how I missed this. Congrats dude. This awesome news.

Hooaah! You can also retire as an E-6 so hang in there and get your 20 in - you'll be glad you did. Next thing that you will need is either a drill sergant or recruiter job so you can get E-7.

Stay safe.

No drill sergeant or recruiter for me. EOD doesn't do that. We are a specialized MOS that doesn't have to do those things. I only have 8 and a half years in so I expect to make it to 7 and hopefully 8 in the next 11 and ahalf years.

great! They recently closed the EOD school here at Redstone otherwise if you had rotated through here we coulda hung out at the track.

Yeah I was there June-Sept 06. And November 2010 and most all of Decmber 2010. But now all of it got moved to VA and the last part is still in Destin FL on Eglin AFB.
