I pulled out an old Motor Trend from 1970 and saw this-
This was a concept car built in the '60s on a Dodge Charger platform. It featured side exhaust pipes, integrated roll bar and no rear seats.

I don't know when this was written:

This car was made at the end of 1969 on a Dodge Challenger base. This car was made from a 1970 Barracuda convertible, Challenger panels where put on the body and customized. It was originally white but was damaged while shipping for its first premier. It was then painted this yellow color...a week before the detroit car show. It toured around the US....Then it was sent and customized again..That's the way it still is today.

The car started life as a Hemi Challenger R/T Convertible. Black paint, black top, black interior & stripe delete. It was modified into a factory show car, the Yellow Jacket.

It toured the country that way for a while, then was redone into another show car, the Diamante.

The car still exists, it is in the Juliano Collection. Link to Steven's website;

I've had this poster hanging in the office for many years.....bottom center pic

Interesting story we got about this car. An older guy came into the shop saying he recognized the Diamante in our poster and said he was one of the designers at Mopar for this car. He said it was a prototype built w/ a 6 cyl and a small trunk mounted fuel tank just for the auto show. Just enough gas to get it up on the platform and out again.
