Hi folks,
I hope you're all busy preparing for Christmas and the many gifts you'll be exchanging under the tree.

I have a question for the LSD experts: I installed a limited-slip differential in my 8.75 axle (489 casting), and I'm using Castrol Transmax Limited Slip LL 75w140 oil. I'm getting some creaking noises when cornering, so I ordered some "Yukon Limited Slip Friction Modifier" additive.

I just received two small bottles, but I don't know how much to put in the axle: one bottle? Half? Both? Do I add a little and keep adding until the noise disappears, or until the noise is "acceptable"? Do you have any tips, or could you tell me from experience how much to use?

Thank you in advance for your insightful advice, and I take this opportunity to wish this forum and its members a happy holiday season. :thankyou:

Edit: I guess that a breaking in period should be considered as normal. Friends suggest me to pour half a bottle (2 Oz), and do the "8" pattern on an empty parking lot. I think I'll do that as a first step, and see what happens then.

You'll have to suck 4 ounces out first.... then put a bottle in.

I've had a little adjustment going on since I installed a new Yukon sure grip, been 3 or 4 years. I'm just using regular 80-90 gear lube and 4 oz of additive. I could throw another bottle at it, but it really doesn't bother me.

YEP! What they were designed to run on, not fancy stuff and definitely not synthetic. One bottle usually does it. I needed to add a second bottle on my Bee, mind you that Sure Grip has never been rebuilt since new.

One bottle in the Swinger's Yukon...

Cone, or clutch?
Did you do a break-in?
Find an empty parking lot. Do a series of figure eights.
(And next time use Dino oil. Synthetic is too slippery to cling to the gears. A friend who owned a rearend shop would not warrantee ANY work if the customer insisted on synthetic lube)

I don't think I'd add anymore LSD additive. You say your gear oil already has it. So I would suggest a proper break in first. The figure eights is the correct procedure.
