Aloha. I didn't have an issue as I just used rattle can paint. Maybe there was wax or polish on it? Clean with rubbing alcohol to remove whatever maybe on there. It's been 6 years now and the paint is flaking off the chrome. So if I do it again, I may try a light coat of a primer to help. Mahalo

look at the front of the engine, below the driver side head. Theres a smooth area about 3 inches long that has letters and numbers these will tell you the year of the block. Maybe hard to read as they are stamped in. Post them here. I don't have a link but the first letters (If I remember right)...
