How would you build a low 10’s street car

A low 10 sec street car is not only a very serious and expensive car to build you'll need the knowledge (or a real good friend) to service it. IMO a low to mid 11 sec car is more realistic especially if anything resembling ok fuel mileage is concerned. Mine 68 Cuda weighs 3640 with me in it and...

    Best street/strip tires?

I've ran both Nitto 555 extreme's and M/T SS drag radials. The M/T's got slightly better traction on the street (can't get anything to hook good on the street) but I only got about 3500 miles out of them. Had 2 sets of Nitto's and they lasted close to 10,000 street miles each (several big...

    What camber caster gauge?

I have the Fastrax caster/camber gauge like Tony and I like it. You'll need turn plates to check camber accurately

How about a little Powerglide love

Nice work Pitts! I have done numerous torqueflite's and 350 Turbo's over the last 37 yrs. but never been into a PG but I know their tough to beat when built like yours and you have an abundance of torque.

Oil pump question on my future motor

One thing only lightly mentioned I think in one post was bearing clearances and I feel that's possibly the biggest reason to run a std vs hv pump. Since your building a race engine I'd suspect your running pretty loose clearances and in that case I vote use the HV pump with the aforementioned...

    904 front clutch clearance

.075-.150 is the Mopar FSM spec. Can be a lot tighter than that. I set them like Tony at .010-.012 per disc so yours is a little tight. I doubt that's causing the squawk though. Was the rear band adjusted correctly? What is the condition of it and the rear drum? If the drum and or band is glazed...

I ran into the same problem on my 408.. Had to use a Cloyes chain that was .010" shorter than stock

Pros and Cons of grinding/polishing combustion chambers smooth?

What size stems are they? I might have an extra factory 3/8" stem size you can have

    727 or 904?

I have a 408 (approx 480 hp) in my 68 Cuda and built a 904 for it 3 yrs. ago. I don't take it to the track much but am real hard on my car. Living out in the country gives many places to open it up. So far it's working just as good as the day I installed it. I wanted to build a trans that...

    4.56 vs 5.13s

This thread hasn't had activity for 5 yrs and the original poster hasn't been on the board for about 1-1/2 yrs. Good luck on getting an answer

question will a 28x9 radial slick

That's odd. I've seen quite a few 67-69's that 28's cleared on. Didn't clear by much but they cleared. Mine clears with a lot of space now also cause I had my painter open up the front part of the wheel opening 1/2" last year when he painted it. 29's should fit on it now if I ever wanted to use them

question will a 28x9 radial slick

Mine did Bob and they were 10" wide. Not much clearance but they never rubbed. Car isn't jacked up either. In fact i'm running 1" drop Calvert racing springs

question will a 28x9 radial slick

Their not slicks but I had 28" tall 10" wide ET streets on mine and they cleared. Not a bunch mind you, but they never contacted the opening. Backspacing on my wheels was 4"

    Crankcase evac. Question?

Wow! As YR said that's impressive. To be honest I have never measured any other than mine so I don't know what an EVAC would pull in other combos. I'm sure there are several factors that influence how much vacuum it pulls. Sooty plugs is rich. Could be as simple as the idle is set too rich...

    Crankcase evac. Question?

The one way valves at the headers will stop any pressure. I measured mine at idle and it pulls about 2 inches of vacuum. That's with a full exhaust system

    Cold starting.

Add a block heater. Their only about $25 at NAPA. In the cold months I plug it in about 4 hrs. (or the night before) I plan on going somewhere. In the summer months 2 hrs. is plenty of time to warm it up. I put mine in the drivers side front lower freeze plug (down and behind the PS pump) and...

741 Housing, 742 ring and pinion..... can it be done?

This has nothing to do with the original question but I have seen many original 489 cases with a 7260 yoke. 10 and 29 spline alike. I have seen more 741 cases with a 7290 yoke than 489's or 742's. Apparently there is a way to use 741 gears in a 489 case because I once bought a 489 not knowing...

    Exhaust cutouts

But the point is this is for street/strip cars, not race cars. Did you watch any of his other videos? One shows a test done that verifies it's not just a little bit of turbulence happening, it's quite a lot

Yes, and they were race cars

    Exhaust cutouts

An electric version is in the works. I forget how long he said it would be when they get them out but they are being tested now and they'll be the type that you can adjust how far open you want them, not just open or closed. I noticed the part about it taking 4 minutes to open or close them and...

    indy/rhs headed 408 timeslips(combos)

What's your engine combo consist of? Nevermind. I just found it in post #53. With the light weight and 4.10 gear if it doesn't run in the 10's something is drastically wrong

    Exhaust cutouts

Been looking at installing cutouts on my car. Got to chatting with a buddy and he told me he and another fellow are marketing a new style of cutout that works properly. What I mean by properly is when in street mode they direct all the gasses out the exhaust like there isn't a cutout there. In...

    What's your A body weigh?

Their really not heavy compared to other Mopar body styles. Only compared to an early Chevy Nova or Mustang or something real small like that. I consider my Cuda one of the heaviest A-bodies since it's a fastback and full dress with stereo equip and it's right at 3500 with a full tank of gas...

    PVC

Yes you can do it that way, or you can run header evacs. In case someone tells you they don't work on a street car with mufflers don't believe them. I'm running evacs on my 408 and have mufflers on it. To test if it really works I drilled and tapped an extra oil fill cap to install a vacuum line...
