what part of the body makes the most sense to start on

I like to start with the ta-ta's myself. But seriously, oldmanmopar is right about the braces. We use 1x1 square tubing for braces.

    Resto-Mod VS Classic

Given the two pictures, I like the red one. Paint the bumpers now, chrome them later, no big deal. If you're on a tight budget, how can you afford a paint job? You're not using tractor enamel, are ya? Is that why we're choosing between Caterpillar yellow or International Harvester red...

    Which Hood Scoop???

Fiberglass. No contest. Unless, of course, cost is a concern! ;-) I have a hinged glass hood with integral six-pack scoop. Saves a lot of weight. You have to weaken the hood springs or remove them and use a prop rod though. If you go with a hood, go AAR. One more piece of advice.. if...

    Single-stage recommendations

If you're going to clear coat it anyway, which is a good idea, why would you use single stage? My dad used to do that years ago - single stage the color, then about three coats of clear. Actual base/clear is easier to work with. Clear coat is a must as far as I'm concerned. It lets you wet...

    Riddle me this Bodymen!

I don't remember for sure, but can't you get at that stud/nut from the wheel opening with the splash panel removed? We paint all the jambs first. Basecoat and clearcoat. Then mask them off a little bit back from the edge, so when you paint the outside of the car, it gets in the seam a little...

    Whats Your Favourite Colour?

I don't think we need to make suggestions anymore, do we? Geez, I would hope he picked a color after nearly four years!

    Deck lid rattles bigtime

If it's like my Duster trunk lid, the inner skin is all one piece with no holes. Set the trunk lid on some saw horses (so gravity is working in your favor). Put a stop collar on a drill bit and drill holes in the inner panel - on the ribs of course. Get some urethane body sealer in a...

    Grill repair help

Read the links. I just bought all the crap to do this with my shark tooth grille. The epoxy shown in the article is not available, I guess. I researched the stuff available and bought SEM 39767 from an online store. It turns out my local Bumper To Bumper had it on the shelf, although at a higher...

Can anybody recommend a source for vinyl stripes?

For my Duster, I want to get a black stripe kit. Who have you had good luck with? How was the quality? How have they held up over time? Thanks, Mark

    Need help with Sharktooth Grille

I got a shartooth grille that needs some work, but it did not come with turn signal bulb sockets. The holes for the bulb sockets are twist-in, but my existing '72 Duster grille has sockets that attach with two small screws. No go. I suspect another car might have the sockets I need. What did...

    Paint and stripes??

#8 Looks like a Camaro. I like #3. It is a little Mustang-ish, but I like it anyway. I'm thinking a stripe running over the hood, roof, and tail, but a narrower stripe, offset to the driver's side. Center about 6" wide, with a 1/4 stripe on each side. Sort of like this, but just a single...

whats the best color for the duster????

To be different, butterscotch. But it would have to have the black hood & stripes. Check out this Bee from Mopar Muscle's site: But if that color reminds you of a baby's diaper, second choice is black.

    body/paint tools??

I was going to suggest that package. It's a good deal and the guns work well. For sanding, I like these: This one was on Northern Tool's site, but you should be able to find one at other places too. Get one that will take regular long board paper. The paper wraps around the ends and clips...

    The Dart has paint !!!

Punch yourself in the head until those thoughts go away. Car looks fantastic. Do you have any idea what a HUGE pain in the *** it is to make the trunk look that nice? Much worse than the engine bay.

    1972 duster steering column

No expolded view like you're after, but here is a ton of photos I took: http://www.fourbarrel.com/steeringcolumn.html If you're talking about that bearing or bushing at the bottom of the column, it's not a real big deal. You can get a nylon bushing from Bill at RMS if you want. 570-443-7440...

Need Help with Picking a Color!!!

I happen to like the beige. Different, and maybe to "blah", but the stripes add enough punch. I like it. Plus, like others said, it's unique. How many red cars with black interior do we need? No offense to those guys... If I were to change it, I would go with a darker metallic brown. My '73...

    Hood Pin Question

Although my Duster is not an original 340 car, I would like to have the factory style hood pins. Everyone who sells them refers to a specific lanyard length. What is the correct lanyard length for a Duster? Where do the lanyards attach? Thanks for any help you can offer. Mark

I know it's not period correct, but...

You want to know if people like it... I understand that, but in the end, if you like it, do it. I like it. You can cut that flat hood without anxiety too. If it was a GTS hood, that would be different.
