    lowering a 383 into A-body

Two of us installed a 383 engine with attached Transmission into my '68 Dart in about 10 minutes. We used a CherryPicker up top and a transmission Jack underneath. No big deal. And Don't Forget to Hammer flat the seam in the Transmission Tunnel before you start the heavy lifting.. -

383 in 68 Dodge Dart? new build

Big Block Dart is a very good site for references and technical info on doing a Big Block retrofit onto a Dart. The people there and their information proved to be an invaluable resource to me during my build. Our Dart is a Daily Driver, which we built as a family project for our son's Senior...

383 in 68 Dodge Dart? new build

Matt, I was in a similar situation to yours in 2005. I had just got a 68 Dart GT with a 273ci engine and wanted to swap it out and insert a 360 engine. A buddy of mine had a newly prepped 383 long block and offered to sell me it for the same price as I would have paid for a 360. So I...

    v8 schumacher kits

I bought the Schumacher complete kit (Motor Mounts, Torque Strap, Tri-Ys) for my '68 Dart GT's conversion (273ci ----> 383ci ). Excellent product. Very happy with the quality of the kit and ease of installation.. -

I have a Eddy Performer RPM on my 383 in my '68 Dart. It fits fine under my Power Bulge hood. I have about one inch to spare..8) On top of the Perf RPM I have a Holley 750 and a Trans-Dapt 14" X 3" air filter, with a 1" drop base. Pics: The Dart's engine bay about 2 years...

    383 stroker

I retrofitted a 383 into my '68 Dart (originally had a 273 V8 ). Sometime in the semi-near future I plan on adding a stroker kit and aftermarket heads. --

    Stupid Cam Question

That's close to the Chet Herbert cam that I have in my 383 in my '68 Dart. 750 Holley, Eddy PerF-RPM manifold, Schumacher headers.. My cam has a noticeable "choppy" idle (LS: 108 ) I used stock springs, Isky lifters, Crane ductile iron rockers /pushrods. It's no "End all-Be all"...

    tti or schumacher headers ??????

I have had Schumachers on my 383 daily driver since 2005. I had the OEM starter in there no problem. The Schummies Do Not Capture the large starter. in 2009, the OEM starter went out and I installed a Dakota Mini starter. ---

    another schumacher header thread

Hiya, Gus.. We installed a 383 Big Block with Schumacher Tri-Ys already fitted to the block (and with transmission attached) into my 68 Dart, from the top, in about 2 -3 minutes, Tops. It was a two-man job. It went down in my garage at home. Nothing special. We used a regular Cherry...

    noob, K frame/engine swap questions

FWIW, in our '68 Dart GT with an original 273, when we put the 383, we used the Schumacher kit. The only thing needed to be cut out was the 1" notch on the engine perch to clear the Oil Pump, as shown below; http://www.engine-swaps.com/Pages/InstructionPages/A67BRB.html Now with...

    Valley Pan question

Hey, guys... I was reading the Feb 2011 issue of MOPAR ACTION magazine "Tech Topics" section.. On page 89, a guy named Gregg asks a question about having a leaky valley Pan in his car. He has a 440 engine in a 1970 Charger R/T. The engine has aluminum heads and aluminum intake...

    440 head numbers

I have 902 heads on my 383. It's a daily driver and they work just fine. The 902 heads, I believe, are some of the latest types, with hardened valve seats, and I think that they came out in 1974 or so.. Mine were worked over a bit, (ported, flowed, etc..) --

So you want 2 go Big block...Read this first!

I have a 1968 Dart GT which origianlly had a 273 in it. Now it is a daily driver and has a 383 with all the usual goodies on it necessary to make it work. I'm not a mechanic, so I had to hire help to help me build the motor and transmission and do some welding and front end Disk brake...

    383+auto+headers

Plenty of room around the starter. I just retrofitted a new starter from a Dakota a couple of weeks ago. It was a ten minute job, in my driveway. Torsion bars are not an issue. Pipes are 2.5" dia.

    383+auto+headers

'68 Dart GT with a 383 and 727. Daily Driver Schumacher Tri-Y headers. I used a Copper Brass 3-row radiator. It was NOS as used on a 1973 Jeep Wagoneer with a 400ci engine - Cost was $170.00 Forced Cooling is by Flex-A-Lite Dual electric fans.

    Big Block Engine Mounting Question

I agree. I got their full kit for retrofitting my 383, including engine mounts, torque strap and Tri-Y headers. Couldn't be happier. My Dart GT had been powered by a 273. -

My first A-body, need some 383 advise?

I guess it all depends on how much you estimate that your time is worth... For me, it was well worth the price to get the Schumacher mounts, Tri-Y headers and torsion bar as a package deal for my 383, as I knew that it was all going to fit well together into my Dart from the get-go... Once I...

    budget build 440

Before you spend your time and effort on that...have you had the block checked to make sure it's good..? Have you at least had it Hot Tanked and Magnafluxed..? If not, IMHO, that would be step #1. Oh, yeah - Later on, as you build your Engine...Don't Over-Cam it if you are looking for...

    budget build 440

Hiya.. I am going to assume that the Dart does not have a Big Block in it at this time. FWIW, I took our 1968 Dart GT (original 273 V8 - ) and retrofitted a 383 in it. I did a lot of shopping around for all parts...from the 8 3/4 rear end, to the pumpkin to the Transmission and...
