    Paint Colors and forgiveness...

Color choice makes no difference. A straight body is just that. color will not hide bad body work. The myth of painting a car white because of bad body work is just not true. The same goes for Black. the body work is the foundation of your paint. If not done right it will show.

Normal? Not at all. I do this for a living and I can tell you it's in no way normal. If one of my customers saw there car in this state it would not go over so well. The car should of had epoxy primer right after the car was blasted. Vinegar to treat rust? That should be a big red flag right...

    Epoxy primer

Epoxy primer has no build properties to them and are not meant to be sanded. They are to seal and protect. Just like blackace said they can be reduced to a sealer to use as a base for base coat of paint. We do not do this because as I said they are not meant to be sanded. so we reduce are last...

    Epoxy primer

Yes, I would suggest using the epoxy over the panels you did not strip. Going over filler is fine. The epoxy will seal the old paint from the new. Some of the older paint lines will have a chemical reaction to the new paints out today and will lift/ craze the paint below even if it has been...

pop rivets for a transmission hump?

Panel adhesive is great for intended purpose. But not for a structural part of the floor. Have I ever bonded some thing together and beat it with a hammer...Nope. But I do build cars for a living every day. And I will stick with my first statement.
