I have always considered stripped down A bodies with a 340 a muscle car. Hell, I guess by definition the Scat Pack Darts are not to be considered a muscle car? Why label it as a scat pack?

I did not see "original" in the post. Big valves are not original to the engine, and some 72s have forged cranks. Seeing as heads were changed, hard telling what else has been done to it. Why I was asking.

I have not seen a forged crank in an 72 340 auto. I have seen quite a few 72 340s w forged crank in 4 gear cars "why I asked in the 1st place". Makes sense that @ the assembly plant they are going to use there surplus of cranks up as apposed to scrapping them.

Cast or forged crank? Low compression pistons?

Used Wenol polish and a little elbow crease on my polished MP valve covers. Were oxidized a little, but now look like a mirror.

Not sure about that. Possible, but I have a 78 360 out of a wagon and a 98 mag 360 w the AAQA under the timing cover. Pretty sure 78 and the mag are not high nickel blocks.

I see a small ridge. Probably need to be bored. Pistons then useless, but look like stock slugs. My guess would be std 4.04 bore ( I would measure to confirm). Crank pictured is a forged crank, but looks like thicker cast crank balancer. Pretty sure those are 69 340 rods as well. Looks like 69...

Absolutely.... Id give even more than $800 for my #s motor. You hear of people getting lucky, but for me its been even harder than finding that needle in the haystack.

Hard to say not knowing much about it. Could need a lot of machine work which can add up to serious $. If it already bored .030-.040 or better and needs more the block may be toast. Its a cast crank small valve (doggy) motor so worth less (to me anyways) than a big valve high comp. forged crank...

Is it possible that starter just needs to be shimmed? Flywheel is not missing any teeth. I know I had that problem in Chevys (hate to compare) but a starter shim took rite care of it. I will see how bad it really sounds, hard to say just talking to the guy. He seems to be a straight shooter...
