I took my new 2010 Dodge Ram back to the dealership for undercoating and a oil change. It had only 1500 miles on it but I like to get the oil drained out to remove any metal particulates or tools left behind by the factory workers. Two days and about 20 miles after I got it back home I noticed oil running out from under the truck, when I looked under it I found the drain plug three turns from falling out. With oil on my cement drive way that I clean with a tooth brush and my new Ram with oil running out of it, boy was I some pissed and I can take a lot but that was way to much. After I tightened the plug I found it 4 liters low it holds 7 when full. Check out the picture how far do you think it would have gone before it fell out and screwed the motor. :angry7:

Wow, It's a good thing you noticed that where you did. Could you imagine that plug falling out on the highway? MMG

If that happened to me, I'd be asking for some type of add'l extended warranty on the engine. Unbelievable :angry7:

Did go back and whoop some ***?

When I called the dealership and told them they sent a truck over with a cleaner to remove the oil, rags and more oil. And I received a phone call from the service manager asking me to not say any thing to Chrysler if they call to do a survey on the purchase of the truck. B.F.D.

Sounds to me like they've received some complaints before and don't want anymore bad press with the big wigs....I'd throw his azz right under the proverbial bus.

i wouldn't wait for chrysler to call me. i would be on the phone with chrysler asap. unless ofcourse the dealer wants to do free oil changes for the rest of the time ya own the truck.

i only do my own maintenance. No one else touches my rides unless i ask them. trust myself with my cars only. Man thats pathetic

I would be really pissed off, and after being asked to keep it quiet I would be pissed even more. Who is gonna take the responsibility for that?

I really like your idea and he deserves it, at the very least.

I remember when i first bought my deisel i let the dealership service it and they bunched my air filter up and my truck sucked dirty air for 3000 miles.

how do you figure wear in that situation?

Free oil changes?? I woulda worked that into the purchase on the truck to begin with. I would be telling them to double the warranty at the dealership. Get it in writing. Who knows whats gonna happen 80,000 miles down the road???

With Chrysler trying to rebuild a reputation dealers like this aren't helping. Nail 'em to the wall.

When I worked at a Ford dealership on the quick lube,2 guys forgot to tighten the drain plug and were immediatley **** canned. The problem is,they have 10 or more cars behind yours to service and they do a rush half *** job and not double check things because they always rush you.I usually only had maybe 20 mins or less sometimes to change oil, check brakes, check fluids, filters, etc etc,and the service advisor was always coming out yelling, telling us to hurry the f*** up.I eventually quit,I couldnt take that crap anymore. This is why I would rather do the stuff like that myself,or find a good reputable shop.I wouldve been on the phone pissed as hell had that happened to me,their little screw up almost costed you a blown engine on a brand new truck.:angry7:One time I recieved a free oil change at Spiffy Lube, and after I got the car back,I checked the drain plug and everything just in case

I,d like to know if your oil gauge or idiot light came on?Was there any signs of low oil pressure? Was it ticking or knocking or did you just notice a puddle without driving it with low oil?:angry7:

I would call their *** out on it. Years ago when I worked for a local Ford dealership I had a shop service manager who was one of the better ones. During my interview he told me not to let a vehicle leave unless I felt comfortable with my family behind the wheel. Years later I still work by that same principal. Too many people out there just care about the money and don't take pride in their work.

The same thing happened to my wife's car, when we had taken it to a VIP auto parts while we were on a trip to camp. We drove about 15 miles before we stopped at a yard sale. The oil was running out in a steady stream by then. I reached under and tightened the plug up finger tight, and checked the oil. It wasn't even showing on the dipstick. I walked to a nearby store, and bought oil, and it took 3 1/2 quarts. We went back and I had a talk with the manager. He said they would've been liable for any damages due to their negligence. I ended up getting another oil change then, and 2 more free ones later. They had to clean the entire underside of the car. You can bet I checked the plug the next 2 times I had them change the oil. Since the 2 free oil changes have been done, I haven't given them any of my business. Don't let them off the hook if you are not happy with the condition of your driveway, and truck. They need to fix the problem 100%, and you should get at least a few oil changes on them. Tim

I just noticed the puddle, I drove it to work twice after the oil change I think the second trip is when it really started to back out. You can see the oil on the road when I drove up in front of my house and the trail when I backed it up and parked it. I came off of night shift that morning and it was still dark out and raining. It would have never made the 3rd trip to work. I don't know I there is an
alarm on the gage when there is low oil pressure, I don"t think the oil got low enough.

I guess before you hammer them with the survey see, like mentioned above, if they will increase your warranty.

If not, get the BFH out!

Well, if the light wasn't on on your last drive in the truck, I'm sure you're fine.

That was lucky. The dealer would have been liable for the engine, cut and dried, but who knows how much fighting it would take to have gotten it done, and who wants a brand new truck with an engine that's been swapped in and out by people that can't tighten a drain plug.

Like there's not enough stress involved with owning a new vehicle.

On the upside, congrats on the new truck!
