What odd driving laws do have in your area? Here in New England the state of Vermont the double yellow line is only a suggestion-you can cross and pass if you want and it is clear-I think PA is the same.:)

in PA cross the double yellow pay the fine!
but it is legal to make a LEFT turn on a red light

Left on red is legal in NY as well......as long as the street you are on and the street you are turning onto are both 1 way streets. (Pretty rare occurance)

In CA white signs are law, yellow signs are recommended. Wait. That makes sense. Never mind.

Many states have silly ambiguous differences. Some you can make a "left or U" only if there's a sign allowing it.

Some states do not allow "right after stop on red."

Idaho is playing with a new traffic light that goes against all previous logic.......a flashing yellow left arrow.

You stop at the left arrow on red, go on green. But after a period, the arrow STARTS TO BLINK YELLOW. Now what I was taught is, that a blinking yellow means you can go through WITH CAUTION, but the OTHER DIRECTION has to stop. What this doesn't take into account is "facing traffic."

It makes zero sense to me, and it's only a matter of time........

Dude you got this one wrong for PA, actually you just didn't post the complete rule --- The rule is:
section a: You can always make a right turn on a red light, unless otherwise posted.
section b: You can make a left turn on red but only when on a traveling on a one way street making a left onto another one way street.

Here in New Hampshire they have just started the flashing yellow left turn thing. They are running the test spot in Concord were interstate 89 starts off of Route 3

PA has a few that are safety related though:

Lights must be on in a construction zone

Lights must be on in the rain (if cops pulls you over in the rain and they are off you pay an extra fine)

Is it me or this basically as follows - a flashing yellow arrow is the same as a regular green light (no arrow) being you can turn but you yield to oncoming traffic..... common sense.

really have we become that lazy that drivers do not understand what to do at a regular green light that we need to have a flashing yellow arrow? la da dee la da da oh green go --- crap a a truck, smash!!! if I only had a yellow flashing arrrow.... LMAO!!!

To me, it's NOT common sense, because a FLASHING YELLOW has NEVER meant "YIELD."

You're right about one thing----I think the arrow should go out and a "regular green" should come on.

The DOT engineers that thought this up should have one of the damn things installed --permanently flashing-- right above their bed.

actually the way the law is written
you can turn on red as long as you dont cross an oncoming traffic lane

and as far as the double yellow line is concerned
you may NEVER pass on a solid yellow line anywhere at any time in any state PERIOD
you may only pass if you have a broken line on your side of the road

I like the unwritten rule in Chicago, where at 4-way stops, the 2 cars facing each other cross at the same time, then the other 2 cars facing each other go. It works very well.

I understand how it's supposed to work, but hardly anyone else around here does. Almost any time I'm behind someone that comes to one of those, they stop. The one that seems to catch the most people is going into Riverstone, by the theaters. People just don't get it.

two cars reach a four way intersection at exactly the same time on two intersecting roads and it is a four way stop, Q: who can legally go through the intersection first?
and who must yield

65 in a posted 55 in AZ is not speeding, it is wasting a finite resource....at least that is the ticket I got...

That's how Montana was when there was a Federal speed limit. It was called a "conservation ticket" and was $5 paid on the spot. It was Montana's way of following the fed's laws, but sorta telling them where to stick it.

like excessive fuel consumption?
then what if you are coasting down a very long steep hill?
Yep, wasting gas. When the DPS officer gave it to me he had to explain it to me twice, I was laughing so hard about half way thru his explaination I could not follow what he was saying. Did not think to ask about coasting down hill....

Don't know if these are still in effect, but it used to be illegal to drive without a shirt in Ala, but the law didn't address pants. Also, it was illegal to drive barefoot, but perfectly OK to drive in flip-flops. In the summer, I would keep a pair of flip-flops under my seat (I lived on a lake in the summers), but it would be suicide to drive a stick in flip-flops!

.... it was illegal to drive barefoot!.....

and it should be. Years ago I knew some freak from "Brush Prairie" WA who drove some sort of rendering truck. It became apparrent he was off work for an injured foot.

said "he jumped out of the truck barefoot."

Let's see. DRIVING ....a RENDERING...TRUCK...BAREFOOT...around...FARMYARDS...and other ROUGH GROUND... together with SNAKES....TRASH AND DEBRI....and let's not forget the DEAD ANIMALS...yea I'm thinkin barefoot is the way to go there.
