After thinking and thinking, and looking at other cars, I came up with an idea.
If you look at the tail light panel of a 70+ cuda` or a 70's Roadrunner, or a charger, the tail panel dips in.. and on most A bodies, it bulges out, so I have the idea to have my tail panel custom made to where it dips in. Using the same tail lights, same body line, just an inch or so in. Then I want to find some trim, or make, to go around it, so I can paint the intention flat black and the the rest of the car another color.

Does anyone else think this would give a Duster or Deamon/Dart Sport a "Sportier" look?

Definitly differnt,... Back to the original question,...What made A body cars non-popular,...We "A" body folks are not "sheeple",...We like better,...faster,...cooler...

You have to remember that the A body line of cars were the econo cars of the day. Inexpensive transportation. Todays cars of equal inexpensive daily transportation would be things like a Maxima, Camry, Taurus, etc....

These are in the same thinking line. When your done, you throw them away. A few of these modern lined cars have a pepped up version. The Taurus has a SHO, The Plymouth Aclaim had a hi po engine set up, the listr goes on and on about them, but seldom do they make anmy real length of longevity.

Now, won't you be surprised if one day, 20 years from now, some young punk Jr./High school kids start freakin out when the see a Hyundia Tiboron?

non-popular? What makes you say that? They were and still are very popular. Bet they out sold the E body a million to one and keep right up in sales with the B's.

I'll take a A-body Mopar over anything else, over a B, or even a E-body. They are my favorite!

Light and fast= A-bodies!

I think Rumble said it best, they were econo cars. Inexpensive, and that's why they weren't as popular.

kids freak out now when they see a tiburon or however the f*ck you spell it or i wish i had a nickle everytime ive heard the phrase omg its the fast and furious car! and there will an eclipse going buy. im like wtf, slow, no power, if you did see that movie there was only one star, the charger period. till the bastards flipped it :mumum:

Amen brother,..Blasphemous Basterds

all I meant by non-popular is not as sought after, but I understand why.. I pray that no one ever attempts to collect the cars from 1990 and on.. other than the recent cars and maybe a few of the special ford trucks.. harley edition etc.
I am just trying to think of more ways to make my car stand out without looking stupid..
I got the idea from looking at a cuda model and then at the back of a duster model where the strips surround the tail lights.
There is nothing special about either of my cars so there is no point in trying to keep them original.

Wondering about that myself after looking at a couple of models that my bud built,...Thinkin about blackin out the back of the Spacer,...but where I live, A bodies aren't an everyday thing (anymore)...back in the day they were as common as today's Hondota's and Mazduzu's...

I also question the superbird, I know they built a few of them, but no one kept them. I guess people thought they were ugly?? or could no one afford it or what?

IMO it is simply the "could have" factor. If you could have ordered a new '70 Duster/Demon/Dart with a 440+6 or Hemi the A-Bodies would have been looked at entirely different.

Well, if the orange supra in that movie was actually a turbo car then I hate to say it but it would have beat the charger movie car. The charger didn't even have a functional blower on it, lol. And one thing I noticed is that when the car rolls at the end, it's got an automatic in it! haha way to go to whoever built the car. Anyway, there were a lot of cars in that movie I would have taken for a test drive if given the chance.

Sorry, but I respect anything that's fast and people put time into, new or old. Import or domestic.

As for the A-body question, which is what the thread was supposed to be about... I've always thought that they were popular... but I guess it could be a regional thing?

I think they're ugly, lol.

I ran the phrase "non popular A-body" through the main frame computer at I.B.M.
it came back "does not compute"

caferacerx, you made me laugh with that one, I know its a sin to say it. :(

I am thankful that the Abodies worked out the way they did, cuz if they didnt, I simply wouldnt want a car.

Lets face it-starting in 67 to 76 there was very little change in the a-body style and in the 70's a ten year run with little to no change made it dated. Americans want "new" every year. Even when it is a proven solid design.

true the charger in the movie had an auto and he shifted it like a four speed but b&m makes auto shifters like that, and honestly i believe the cars were only running at wat 75 mph tops? wat i was saying is that kids are already seeking those civics and wat ever else has a four banger ( dont know why) so basically wat you guys fear is already happening kids are gathering up 90s cars. and also about the car flipping they are bastards and should be shot, and a bodies were only unpoular cause they were considered as economical cars or granny cars, granny cars had big motors too but they had a certain appeal to older ppl and the didnt have alot of power where as the challengers and cudas and the road runners had gobs of power and the way it was back then is the way it is now we want the fastest thing in town. speed feeds the need. and i agree with the super bird question theresa few ppl who wanted them but most didnt.

Non popular! Not as sought after! Mabe in the 80s. In this economy and with fuel prices as high as they are, A bodies are holding steady as the b body prices seem to be plummiting. Every place i go there seems to be someone looking for an a body mopar.

The Plymouth Superbird and sister Dodge Daytona were looked at as outlandish & highly impractical back in that time period...many sat on dealer lots for over a year...some Superbirds were eventually stripped of the wing & nose and sold for what they initially were born, a 70 Roadrunner....you could not get insurance in some states(no front bumper)Maryland was one of them....1935 seems to be the build number most recognized concerning the Superbird while 503 for the Daytona.

There was an F8 Green, white wing HEMI Daytona,4-speed that sat for over a year here in my home town....eventually sold about 1975 or so, never saw it again............can you believe it?? Who knew??:dontknow:

how much was the superbird and daytona, new straight from the show room? if i remeber correctly from wat ive read and seen and such, the highest cudas and chargers and challengers and road runners either with a 440 6 or a hemi 6 pak, and i think some came with the offset dual 4bbl. were around 3 or 4 grand maybe less maybe more i dont exactly remeber but 3 or 4 grand seems to stick to me.
