I sure hope not. I'm just trying to make the old bomb run better. Currently, I have 135-140 psi in all cylinders except number 5 & 7 which register 155 psi. When you romp on it the engine smokes out the exhaust and from my awareness that is the only time it smokes profusely. It don't smoke on start up or light throttle but, you can smell some oil out the exhaust. The 68 318 block has 186k miles on it and never rebuilt other than a cheap cam, intake, headers, and timing set from a previous owner. Holds good oil pressure 70 cold and 50 warm. It is the original block and heads have never been touched.
The current engine I am needing looked at is a 73 318 block with 9.5.1 pistons and 256/262 cam. The pistons might be KB167s and the seller hasn't been able to verify the head castings. It has a truck pan but, he has a car pan and edelbrock aluminum intake. I'm not sure how hard it is for an amateur like me to change the oil pan.
Anyways, it has been hard to get up with the seller since the VA has been doing a nerve test for a supposed foot neuropathy which came back negative. Now, I have to go for a sleep study plus I work 3rd shift. In fact, I'm getting ready to go to sleep. And like I said my wife doesn't understand. She thinks these things can be built on a 1980s budget and it doesn't work like that anymore. As I said before if she would have listened to me I don't think I would be having to deal with this. That 71 GTX clone was a really sound car to drive and it was nice to drive a 440. But, the 318 will have do in this car as a 340 is too expensive and no luck on finding a good running 360 for cheap. Oh well, all is life. Have a good day.
