"1970 Pro Touring Dart Build"

-
I'll post larger pictures once the hood is welded up and fitted on the car.

did you ever sell the 360 and if not what were you asking?

Progress update.

Left the windows in for now. The car is loaded into the trailer and will be dropped off at a local shop to get the engine bay, inner fender areas and bottom cleaned this week.

Picked up the car yesterday. It was worth the $200 to have the bottom blasted. No more grease or oils to deal with and I don't have to spend countless hours on the bottom trying to clean it.

I spent about 4 hours today cleaning all the sand out of the nooks and crannies... At least it was a nice 40 degree day to work outside.

Only found one problem spot.

Rear passenger trunk area.

LET THE METALWORK BEGIN!!!!!

This will be awsome build to follow. Like the way your doing things here. Good luck with the build

Thanks! Should be making some good progress this month.

Got some more parts today. Absolutely LOVE the shifter. My wife picked it out and talked me out of a ratchet shifter.

great progress, blasting the grease, rust and grime away is the nicest way to go......like everybody tells me, now get to work

Spent the day cleaning the seam sealer out of the trunk, removing the trunk floor pan and got the sub frame connectors welded in. I had a lot of help from friends which made it more entertaining and helpful.

My hands hurt from all the scraping it took to get the seam sealer up. Then I took the wire wheel of death to it and cleaned up what was left.

I was half blinded by the shop light when a buddy took the picture. Just about to start cutting the trunk floor between the spot welds.

Here it is removed.

The rotten area that wasn't cut out will get replaced. Need to make a trip to town to buy some steel.

Sub-frames installed. Just need to be grinded and seam sealed.

Next up, the leaf spring mounts get moved inward.

definately the right approach....

I luv to follow your progress...great pics
other than delayed components (ball joints)...any surprises?

Thanks Denny. Besides the ball joints... :)

We found that the car has been on a frame rack and straightened. Pinch marks from the grabbers and weld marks on the frame. There are a few pull holes in the drivers quarter they used to pop out the quarter, but everything looks like it was repaired correctly. My best guess is that the car was in an accident early on in its life because whoever fixed it leaded areas instead of using bondo.

I sat and stared at the bottom of that car for about an hour trying to figure out how I was going to get the exhaust out the back of the car. Only good solution i could come up with is a fuel cell. Hence the removal of the trunk floor.

I forgot...what are you planning on doing in the rear that required a fuel cell?

If you're gonna go Aluminum, I got a guy who will make anything you design....any hood progress ? I'm almost done with my "special" mods then I can get back to the hood....unless Denny or Mark think of something for me to do.

That's not fair. You should be on your back with a scraper and torch getting hot undercoating stuck to your face. :D Looking good.

Anyone have a source on a side mount sending unit that would work in a 6" deep tank?

Here is what I'm looking at for a fuel tank. Fill will be close to the stock location in the trunk. Would like to have the sending unit on the front of it so I don't have to hang the tank lower or relief the trunk pan.

Ross, I sent one iteration off to Jdbrand.com to see how much it would cost and what his thoughts on it were.

It looked like Jdbrand has a square access port, hence the one in the images below.
(should be 22" wide)

Leaving an open hole so I can put my own pick up in it and weld my own fill tube. The other 8AN are for future use if I decided to go FI and need a return line.

No hood updates. Friend that runs the shop just got a new Lincoln tig welder and wants to use that but first has to get use to it.

J.D Brand is who I was gonna suggest, looks like your a step or two ahead...if you look a my build on page #24 post# 584 you'll see how he (JD) made me a fuel sump to keep a constant supply around the pick up....if I upgrade to fuel injection the current system will still be usable.

Thanks. I'll go check it out. Did he put any baffling in your tank?

Updated fuel cell after talking to JD on Monday. Here is a representation of what I ordered.
I couldn't figure out how to do the fill tube correctly, but you get the idea.

I did, sorry I haven't gotten back to you.
I need to clone myself so I can get more done in a day... Or at least have it so that one of me could have a couple rum and cokes. :)
