Ive just changed my mind about the snorkel scoop i was going to go with on my 73 duster, i was curious if anyone was running the 4 inch cowl inducted hood on a later body style duster. If i was going to run a fiberglass pin on style hood how do the back pins pin on? Pictures of both would be great!!
thanks.....

Another chevy Duster. Even the Chrysler engineers researched this scoop & found it not worth having!

There is a picture of a duster with the cowl scoop here go to search and type in huge mistake when that comes up look for the thread by player1up there is a picture of a red mad face in it. the picture is not the best but it may help for now. I think it looks good as far as it being a "chevy duster" its your car if you like it do it if someone else doesnt like it tell them its not their car deal with it. good luck Justin

I bought a '72 Duster with the cowl hood already in place and didn't like it. Of course I no longer have the Duster so I am not able to send you pics however, it was great as a snow melter take off the aircleaner and advance the timing enough and it would shoot flames up across my windshield(LOL). On my Dart Sport I went with the snorkel scoop and it is an advatage that you can clearly hear as the air is sucked into the carb.

I typed in "Huge mistake" and 11 pages worth came up in the search.
YIKES!!!!!!!!!

Not mine, and it sure Doesn't look like a Chevy to me

i somewhat agree the cowl hood wouldnt be my first choice but it looks good on mopower71s car and i really dont see how a cowl induction hood can make or break a mopar guy. No its not really the hood you usually see on a mopar but in my opinion that is what would make it stand out how many cowl hoods do you see on a mopar now how many six pack, snorkel and twin scoop a bodies do you see yeah all the factory mopar stuff looks awesome but the cowl hood gives you a different look too. They all look fine to me its really only a matter of opinion if its your car. If you dont think something looks good on someone elses car there is nothing you can or should do about it.If the owner likes i say you should support their decision they probably have a lot of time and money in their cars and there is no need to bag their opinions just cause you dont have the same taste. That is what makes these cars great how much fun would it be to go to a car show and see the same cars over and over Justin

I like that one too, i just want to get away from the norm... I dont want the hood to crack or the scoop come off. Kinda why i was thinking of a one piece hood. So is there a big advantage one way or the other??

Might as well put in some nova tail lamps while your at it. I just don't understand installing something for looks, other than venting hot air from under the hood, I see no function. I guess thats the racer in me. Chrysler Corp. put alot of engineering into the scoops that was installed on their cars, to me thats what set our MOPARS apart from the brand x cars. Could you imagine a 1968 HEMI DART scoop on a camaro. I don't think so scooter!

i dont recall him asking if the hood had function he simply likes it and that doesnt seem to sit well with you. he in no way wants to make his mopar out to be anything than a mopar and i see no way that a cowl hood is going to turn a duster into a chevy. once again i understand that it is not your style and you will never install one on your car and that is your decision but i dont see why you need to knock these guys for simply liking something you dont care for. Im sure it would upset you if someone had negative comments about the work you had done to your car or something you wanted to do to your car. Once again the cowl induction would not be my first choice i love the mopar style hoods and i understand the cold air function to them has an advantage of performance along with good looks im just saying you dont need to make someone feel like their preference is dumb just cause you dont personally like it simply stated its his car and in the end you dont have to like it only he does. Nothing personal towards anyone just saying it seems it would be more productive to either give someone good feedback towards their ideas or just say nothing at all unless their ideas are going to get someone hurt no point making someone feel awkward for liking something we dont

I agree with JJR426. Whatever turns your crank. Most of us don't have the funds to accurately restore a car anyway. My idea of a hood scoop, is to buy a fiberglass hood, and lay up a scoop of your own design. Or better yet, cut a hole in the hood, and run a high rise with an external breather. Now thats cool. Howard

I already have a guy from work saying that my duster is the worst looking nova he ever saw. I just tell him that he wouldn't know an awesome car if it t-boned his little nissan pu.

well I will say that cowl hoods on chebs are like mustangs with flowmasters....didn't they come from the factory like that????

again do what you want and when someone says "I don't like it" ask them where their car is.....then laugh when they point to the white toyondaissan sedan with the obligatory "my kid is better than you kid" bumper sticker.

OK now that I have offended everyone I think I'm done here!
and by the way the mrs and I have FINALLY agreed on a color. ( and I only had to agree to park the minivan inside the garage)

Personally, I like the cowl hoods, my 73 Swinger will be sporting a 6inch fiberglass cowl hood for more than one reason. First of all, I like it and its my car, sorry if you dont like it, not my problem. Second, Ill be running a dual quad tunnel ram and I dont want to worry if I get caught in the rain, in other words, I want the carbs covered. Third, I dont want the same thing that everyone else has on their A body at every cruise in or show.

People should run what they want on their cars, but I would add that a cowl hood is far from different than anyone else has. It seems to be the most popular scoop on cars. I have seen lots on mustangs, chevys and Mopars. It's the hood of choice on pinks.

I never said it wasnt popular on ANY car, but you dont see them on A bodies or any other Mopar around here very much at all. I just dont want another Swinger with a 6 pack or snorkel scoop. I dont know if either of those would cover my carbs anyhow and I dont want a front facing scoop in case of rain.
