Reference pics and help needed for 69 340

Not sure but this may help. I got this off of a 1969 Satellite with a SB in it, car had NO air and NO power steering, the crank pulley measures 6 1/8" across, 1 3/4" deep.

I went and measured my crank pulley again with a steel ruler and it matches the above measurements. Here is my updated image with the correct measurements.

I hate pulleys.............. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! I bought a car to get all of mine so they would be right.

LOL, sorry but thats funny!! I am feeling your pain though Bill. Where the heck did I put my damned qualudes!!

Ok while at dads I took a pic of his engine bay 67 cuda 273. See in the pic for the alt bracket, it has a total of 4 bolts. 1 for the alt and 3 to mount the bracket. Well my bracket doesnt have that 3rd hole, but the threaded hole is there in the water pump...wrong bracket probably?? Go figure those bolts/spacers on dads car were mine....I guess Im going there to repossess them!! LOL

Thanks 340sfastback for the updated pics/measurements. Im pretty sure my 2 groove pulley will work for now(will acquire the proper single groove eventually). Its difficult to measure accurately as my verniers only go to 5"

So what do ya'll think on the alt bracket??? Good, bad???

Thanks!!

Yeah the alternator bracket should have a total of four holes, three to bolt to the water pump and one for the alternator. The pictures above both look correct. The brackets and spacers are readily available as reproductions. Where as the original style steel pulleys for the '69 and earlier cars are not reproduced.

I put a wanted ad up here on this board and that is where I got my non-AC pulleys from. My car is originally an AC car but since I don't have it hooked up wanted the non-AC pulleys.

That looks right on the 273 alternator.

Oh and that is a '70 style timing chain cover you have on your engine (earlier picture). Won't affect pulley alignment but you will not be able to see timing marks with a driver's side lower radiator hose in the way. I located a '68 and earlier "timing pointer" again through a wanted ad on this board and it bolts to the two lower water pump pulleys so you can time it from the passenger's side. If you have a '70 up balancer you will have to re-mark where TDC is.

No I dont Lance...DAD DOES!! I guess here goes another frickin want ad!!

Oh 340sfastback, can I simply drill that hole that I need in the bracket I have??

Thanks all!!

LOL time to find one

if the bracket is flat like dads then i would say yes

I just checked one of my goodie boxes and the 1970 Duster bracket I have doesn't have the fourth hole. That must have ended in 1969 when the went with the aluminum water pump.

is it like this one BIll ? if so, then yes , that is for the aluminum pump , plus it has bends in it.

yep that be the same as my later 360. ive never held one next to the older style to see if the holes are in the same place or if they are same sizes. something i should really do sometime

i think steve is about to find out though lol

LOL, you guys are too much!! I wish I knew how to "multi-quote" but dont. Here's muh replies.

Alt bracket does have slight bends in it. BFH here we come, I cant wait for that!! Im just about ready right now to swing at anything!!
Yep I knew it was 70 up timing cover, Im working on getting one, go figure I had 2 of the pricks and sold them all!! But since I got an orig 69 340 rad I planned on getting another tim cover anyway.
Makes sense in a way that the bracket is a 70 and up as the water pump and timing cover all match.

Hi my names Steve and Im addicted to methamphetamines.........holy frickin cow this is just like dominoes.....and I dont mean f'n pizza either!! Ok guys, I will post back once I smash the **** outta the bracket....or something and make up some spacers......
