Fast and Loud Thinks Shelby Dakota is basically worthless???

-
Pretty much the only car show I enjoy watching is Power Block. I don't get the speed channel so I miss a lot.

I owned a small speed shop from 1999-2005 and had to deal with Richard a few times, the dude is a self richous prick. He burned me pretty bad on a deal. The man knows nothing about cars, he's just a smooth talking criminal. However his crew is top notch and they do amazing work. Even though he burned me I still DVR every episode.

I have to say the same the tuck aint woth alot it was a hacked up dak not woth the trouble to fix and make money on

:toothy5: I stand by Morons..They took a car no one in their right mind would dump all that money into..When was the last time you saw a sweet 78 Ford Fairmont ?? They stuck their own Gas Monkey Logos all over it <just what I want> spent $8,000 on Chrome paint and high bid was $7500 ...Less than 1/3 of what they got into it..Outside the Box all right...And down a HOLE...Did you see that Rambler ?? asking $20,000 WTF :toothy5:

:wack:

Also, I am no drift fan, by any stretch of the imagination... but I think 'morons' is a bit harsh.. They tried to think outside the box.. Tried to do something out of their element.. They both admitted to knowing nothing about drifting (which despite what people think appears to actually take some amount of skill) Aaron said he had never built a drifter... So they took a shot.. Heck, its their money, they can spend it however they want... I personally wouldnt have done that, but thats what makes us all unique... i will still give Kudo's for giving it a shot.. And they lost their asses on it.. My only thing was, I thought they picked the wrong kind of car to make into a drifter...but then again, I think that was part of the point.. I get the impression money isnt the be all end all to them.. look at the money they dumped into the derby car.. (with a pretty penny spent on wheels and tires for a car that was gonna get smashed) and they werent even able to use the car.... They seem to enjoy cars, they enjoy flipping them, and they actually seem to be genuinly happy and getting a kick out of what they do for a living... god bless them, cause I dont enjoy sh*t about what I do for a living.. LOL ...

There is no such thing as a sweet Fairmont.. They all look like sh*t to me :D and I still stick by morons is overly harsh... we agree to disagree

91-96 Dakota UNcomfortable? Wow, we must be totally oposite.

My 93 was the most comfortable vehicle I have ever been in, in my entire life!
My 2000 is slightly less comfortable, and less roomy, but good enough to keep for 100K miles and 10 years.

...and I actually liked the way they looked before they streched the nose to accomidate the v8.

The BB Chrysler Interceptor is a Jensen. I come across those every now and then.
If you really want one and do your homework, you can find them for as little as $3500.

Except for the wheels the Rambler was awesome, when is the last time you seen one? And, they sold it and made money on it.......:glasses7:

Aside from the goofy wheels on the fairmont, i think they did the best thing you could ever do to a fairmont, turn it into a race car.

And this fairmont is pretty sweet....doesnt look good, but i'd own it:

haha I like the way They call it a sh-t box, then he comes back around and lets the turbo roast the wheels off it, that thing is definatly a sleeper.... But It's still a fairmont he can keep it...and it's stupid to let'er rip with all those people around thats an accident wait'n to happen...

I saw the show, too. I think thy got more for the truck than it was worth.
Sorry, that's just my Opinion.
I liked the first gen Daks, though. The 318 was the perfect engine for them, the V6 had less power and about the same poor MPG's Why bother.

I LOVED my 600k mile 90 dakota and my 300k mile 318 96 4x4 but they are still basically worthless in these guys world they look for a chance to make a buck. they do have a little "vision" im so sick to crap of Numbers correct BS. those cars have there place but they are BORING. give me a 318 car hot rodded to be kick ***. kinda like Grave yard cars BORING BORING BORING great cars great history but jab my eyes out boring. Gas monkey is fun we should all take our selves a little less serious here and there.

Gas Monkeys? The title of the show should tell you something. Fast and Loud? Haven't see anything on that show fast or loud. Watching any one of those "car flipper" shows is just plain good entertainment. But, would anyone in their right mind buy anything they built?

Um 25 mpg is poor ? the v8s get bout 18 . Givin that my v6 could not keep the v8 daks but it was still funn as all get out and got good mpg . and would still drift around corners ahhhhhh tire smoke goot love it

The PRE-Magnum 3.9 was kind of a dog, Magnum 3.9 is a great little motor.

Sorry, Doc. But I never saw 25 MPG from my 3.9 ever. Not even on the highway on a long trip. If I was very ginger on the gas pedal, on a long internet drive, I might have made 19 mpg. Around town, is was closer to 15 or 16 mpg. I used to drive 101 miles to work each morning and another 101 home at the end of the day (not counting the driving I did during the course of the day and on weekends.

I filled the tank everyday, and changed the oil every 3 weeks. After a years I had 61,000 miles on it, and kept very close records of the money I spent on gas and oil, and maintenance, etc, because it was all tax deductible for me, but I had to prove what I was spending.

When I sold the 3.9 Dak and purchased the 318 Dak, I saw no appreciable difference in the cost of operation. My 318 Dak would do as well (or as poorly, depending on your point of view).

In fact, the only variance was the cost per gallon of gas, and someone at my insurance company noticed that the truck was a V8. which cost me an additional $118.00 per year.

I have to agree on the "not too much MPG difference" between 5.2 and 3.9.

My mom has an 03 Qc 3.9 and gets about 17. My 93 CC 3.9 got about the same.
Previous to her 03, mom had a 92 3.9, which got about 18.

From having those three, I can say the performance is hit and miss.
Mine was a D-O-G, dog. Her first one was a screamer, and the 03 is middle of the road.

My brother in law had a 92 CC 5.9. Almost as peppy as my 00 5.9, and about the same average MPG- 14 for me, 15 for him.

Perhaps we should not overlook that if you wanted an RWD Mopar that weighed less than 5000 pounds during the 80's and 90's (and couldn't afford a Viper)...

...the Dak was pretty much it.

It is a great little truck, and for some (me included) the perfect size.
It is almost the same phisical size as my 66-74 B body cars (and just slightly heavier), but has the passenger compartment "feel" of a Duster, etc.

...and last week I scored a "Super Pursuit II" hood for my 00 R/T.
Been looking for almost 10 years for one of those!

...and the more I watch "Wheeler Dealer", the more I like it.

Although I don't know how they make any money on $500 profit per vehicle, while $5,500 goes through their hands...and they pay a casual laborer (Paul).

I never understood a lot of the Shelby stuff. Especially in the 80's. I guy I use to work with collected them. In a way it was cool because he was picking them up for $2000.00 a piece. So I guess it was a cool little hobby. The only one I liked was the Omni GLH. For the most part it was all the same car. The 80's sucked for cars. I'm surprised their wasn't a Shelby K Car. Maybe there was?
