They are now with their dodges.

They hurt themselves by locking the computers out too. Sooner or later they will provide a tune but it will be expensive and not give ya the full potential of the motor.

The pic you posted is the real deal.........That new one this thread is about looks for all the world like your average RICE BURNER......I would NEVER waste my cash on such a thing as that.

Give me a true Mr. Norms Cuda conversion for the Challenger platform.....Now THAT is a real "Cuda". Period.
 
Airwoofer - me and my dad are really good friends with our local Dodge dealer. Mainly cause we have bought every car we have owned from them and I dated the parts manager's daughter along time ago. Anyway, we were there about a month ago and he told us a guy came in a few days before we did with a 2012 SRT Challenger he bought and wanted to know if they had a supercharger kit from Mopar for it. The owner of the Challenger said he had been searching for an aftermarket kit, but no one had one. So the Dodge parts manager calls up Dodge and asked and dodge basically told him "No one has a supercharger kit because we have not released the engine specs to the performance companies that make aftermarket parts. Dodge plans to make a 2013 Challanger that will have the 392 Hemi with a supercharger option." So hopefully we will see if this is true in the upcoming year.

The new challys can be made to run but you have to beef up the drivetrain. There are blowers available for them! Here I was going against a 2008 with 9 PSI boost in his belt driven blower... 7.18 run. Was 97+ at the traps and he was 99+ and catching me. Since I think he has had to replace the tranny and rear end and driveshaft with bigger stuff...

Darn fish is almost completely apart now. putting in a MRL roller instead of the Comp hyd cam. Should help make up for the stock interior and pain it will be getting.

Thing about a new car for me is all that it takes is good credit and you are on the road.....only to see your self at damn near every street light. Wish I had $10 for every new Camaro/Mustang/Challenger on my recent road trip.

Bingo....Chrysler/Fiat's current problem with "EVERYTHING" they produce! I look forward to innovation, who cares if it's a 4-cylinder if it makes more power than a stock 70' 340 so be it, technology is great, classics are classics; they're two totally separate animals that should not be measured up next to each other because EVERYTHING is different nowadays

Yeah i agree there Ink. I was always one who never wanted to be part of the "IN" crowd. I like to have or drive something different.

1) new challenger looks like a slab sided caricature of the original. it's fat, it's boring and the *** end looks like the styling guys called it quits somewhere around the rear wheels :tongue2:

2)it's still better than this:

You guys are right on. The new Barracuda concepts aren't showing me anything that I can get excited about. There's some stuff in Fiat's past that would be cool to update and improve with US style reliability.

In the mean time, I will save my $s and fiddle with my Darts. I ride a Honda PCX when the distances aren't too long and the weather is obliging and drive a 2000 Buick for all other occasions.

In all fairness, we haven't seen any concepts yet. Chrysler has been very careful about keeping the car under wraps, with the possible exception of the Raplh Gilles interview on 60 minutes last march where there was a conspicuous red coupe in the background (which they brushed off as a "design exercise") (see attached).

All we know is that it will be a totally new RWD platform which will eventually be applied to numerous models (which is always the case), the Barracuda will likely be sold under the new SRT brand (along side the Viper), will be a bit smaller and lighter than the Challenger, will likely have 6.2L/SC Hemi and other engine options. The styling will not be "retro" but will likely have 'Cuda design elements.

So far, there's nothing to NOT get excited about.

I would much prefer Chrysler to stand alone and not have foreign intervention into a very American brand but so far, Fiat is proving to only help where they actually do a good job- like interiors...I have hope that Chrysler can put out a new Barracuda that's worthy of the name.

1: while I kind of share your opinion, not truly in love with the car, it does, IMO, still look good. You just appear to be one of those guys unhappy with anything Chrysler tries to do.

2: I could not agree more. Wrong design in the wrong time as well as being vastly under powered. Now, IF it ran 12's OOTB.......

3: this is another problem many are having. Your making a direct appearance comparison of the cars and not what they are/were.

Ask your self honestly. What was the old Dart? If you did not come up with an answer like this:

"A basic transportation car that started with a base engine and no frills."

Then you have totally missed it. The old Darts were nothing more than that with a few performance versions made. Remember, adding to the old Darts check list added price from the base as we all know. Se of the most popular upgrades were:

Carpet instead of rubber mats
Power steering and brakes
A/C
Added drivetrain power ment a upgrade to a 318 as the first step, sometimes the only step up.

If you can not make a direct compare from the above
To today's Dart, a basic people mover that starts with nearly no options and is being sold dirt cheap, you have and will continue to miss it and
Probably will never get it.

If ya don't like the car for another reason, looks, a Fiat intervention/Dodge in Fiat clothing, to small, ugly, what ever, that is fine.

Well, let's hope it's more than that. :p

IMO, the ideal situation would be a Barracuda that looks how the car would have looked if it ran uninterrupted like the Mustang since 1964.

The "replica" thing is played out and the retro cars never look as good as the originals (mostly due to crash safety requirements and fatter people needing bigger cars)...so "evolutionary" sounds like our best hope to me.

Did you come up with a 2 door muscle car? That is where they were back in the day. Often called pony cars since they were competing with the Mustang and the GM offerings. These were not sport cars like a vette. But certainly designed as a performance car.

Doesn't the new Challenger fit that description?
If the Cuda is built, I hope it fits that description. Size of car and power plant only truly need to perform. While I think it would be a travesty if it came with anything but a big HEMI, the choice is outta my hands. And if it is built on the Challenger platform, I'd be happy to a degree and may get one. Looks would have to kill.

If the Cuda came as a small car, it better perform.
That is the bottom line and all that counts when your making a performance (muscle) car.
OH! And 2 doors are all that it can have.
Still hurting on a 4'door Charger.
 
I'll agree with rumblefish's comments.Also the new dart has WAY more creature comforts than the one in my garage.
Now lets keep in mind what the chally/cuda was also offered as.My 72 cuda has a tape recorder that will record from the radio or from a mic so businessman or grocery getters could take notes.So they were designed to performe but also for the every day person as well.The reason the dart lost the big block in 1970 was so the chally/cuda would be the big dog on the porch for its size.
If they do offer a 6.2 with a SC it should be good for atleast 550hp I would think.But they would be shooting themselves in the foot finacially if they didn't offer a v6 as well.Wouldn't a FI 6 pack be a nice retro offering?
 
The styling will not be "retro" but will likely have 'Cuda design elements.
I hope they do a better job then they did with the dart as it has nothing in common with any of the old ones,IMO its not a bad car but the only thing it shares is the name.Atleast the chally looks "like" the old one.I think if they made a smaller 2 door version of the 05-10 charger it would represent the cuda well.Like the extra doors or not that front clip is the meanest looking car made then.The newer ones I'm not so crazy about.
 
The article says "replacement for the challenger." Why replace, GM has the camaro and the vette.
 
I read that they may not be killing the challenger since it and the cuda would be in two different catagories.
 
T%hing about it is, oboma was bragging last night in the 2nd debate that he and his EPA have MANDATED lower avgerage fuel milage so American cars can compete on the global market. Think Tata Nano kinda small. Muscle cars, PU trucks, SUVs SELL and that bozo puts in small car, small engine requirements. they will probably up the "gas guzzler" tax and still we will not be able to buy big HP.

The loser just doesn't get what AMERICANS want.
