With troubles from bills winding down im starting to get hopefull for my next project. I have a 78 model 440 sitting on the stand and want something to put it in. Has anyone seen or done a 440/727 swap into a mustang? Lol i know i know. Why not use a ford motor or get a mopar body? Well i want to be unique and if people are going to swap chevy engines into mopars why not swap a mopar into a ford? Mustangs can be had on craigslist for $800 all day around here with blown motors. Anybody have any idea how hard this would be to do? Custom headers, motor mounts, trans mounts, driveshaft, and trans tunnel mods will be neccesary im sure. A tubular crossmember for a mustang can be had for $300 shipped so that will provide extra oil pan clearance but does anyone else have any red flags going up?

The biggest red flag is that it's a Ford.

Hahaha i knew someone would say it!
but is it still bad if its powered by mopar? Lol i love the look of the late 90's mustangs when lowered with some meat out back and a wicked amount of tire shredding power lol

Nuthin' wrong with a Mustang. Think about the
WOW factor when you pop the hood.

I'm a car guy first then a Mopar guy.

I agree that the Mustang can look good but I am all Mopar. I would like to get an old 30's or 40's Plymouth but most of them have a Chevy engine in them and that turns me off right away. I would try to find a Mopar body but that's just me. Do what makes you happy and don't worry about what anybody thinks about it. Just have fun with it. As far as making it work, with a torch and welder you can anything fit.

Dustin go for it. It will be different and will stand out. But you are right a lot of Fab Work

I did some google research and there seems to be a lot of threads started all over the web about it but i can't find one that follows through on it. On most of the mustang forums everyone gripes about just putting a 351w in it and calling it good but since i already have the 440 theres $$$ saved. So roughly $1000 for a car and then $200 to rebuild my 727 plus $300 for a crossmember (if needed) and then a driveshaft, ignition system, whatever upgrades i want to do to the motor, and then some metal for the custom parts. I think if i di all the work i could be in less than $25-3000 and have a modern car with classic power.

Unless i cam convince my boss to let me put the 440/727 in his 2010 challenger we have torn apart with motor and trans out lol i dont see that happening though haha

Better put wheelie bars on it too.

What year mustang?

Any year thats after the square mustang, i cant remember what year they switched the body style after that. My buddy is supposed to be getting one that has a blown v6 if the lady can find the title. He wants the interior from it and that works out because then i dont have to pull it lol

And wheelie bars would be wicked! But totall overkill im sure lol

I think that would be 79 or 80

Id share some serious kudos!!!, just like that "one crazy sum-B" who stuffed a twin screwed B-series 383, into a 70 cutlass.....and it MOVES.

Lol the hardest part of this kind of project isnt the thinking, fabbing, research or even the work. Its cleaning out the garage and redoing it so i can put a car in there to work on! Lol city wont let me have a car in the driveway so thats first on the list.

You might run into trouble with the oil pump location on the 440. It could interfere with the steering rack or shaft. A remote filter set up could solve any clearancing needed. A truck pan might be better suited than the car pan. Width wise should be no problem as I have seen 4 cam mod motors in fox bodies. Used to be popular to put 460 big blocks in them.

I have a front sump pan and a 187 pan and 440 source sells truck pans so that shouldnt be hard to get. Im sure it will still need some modifying but hopefully google will know all lol

Youll need some serious springs in there as most aftermarket springs are just lowering springs for these fox bodies. I guess if they can put a 460 in there, then a 440 would fit but I dont know about the header selection. Most Ford products have a hemi style header down angle which helps, the 440 is straight out. A classmates dad had a 440 in a Ford Courier on propane and had the tank in the bed, ran it at the track only, wonder how it passed tech?

Hell I'd do it. In a month I'm helping my nephew. Put my old 360 into a 60s Nova wagon I already put a big powered. By mopar sticker on its back window

Haha this awesome! Everwhere else on the web people were bashing this! Its like mopar revenge lol i hope im able to follow through on this as it would be really cool to drive around in a big block powered mustang

I would say the engine bay is plenty wide to maybe modify some truck 440 headers to fit. Trans tunnel should be fine if it will clear a C6.

At last years mopar nationals saw a corolla with a 340 was awesome because just sitting there you would never know so you just about pissed your pants when he started it
