When car was caged I had the fab guy install plates over the air inlets on the cowl, car is going to be street driven so I figured it was a good idea given the cooler climate here in Washington. I remember this coming up on here a while ago and a few guys said it was a bad idea for some reason or another.....What say you?

The only reason I could think of that it would be bad is you don't get any outside air through your under dash vents.

Unless I'm missing something.

I need to seal mine on my Dart since i removed the boxes .Its a race only car that sits outside year round.Usually on my first pass of the season , i get a face full of leaves and dirt from the vents at half track ,lol ...

The only reason I see to have it is to clear the windshield on cool or humid days. If it is inop then I say seal it off and drive it on nice days only.

But, but, you're gonna miss out on the sheer joy of having a winters worth of crap blown all over you when you open that mailbox door on the first warm day of spring....

Heat box is no longer in the car....

Even if it was still in there the defrosters would still work with the cowl blocked.
Opening one of the box vent doors would allow it to recirculate.
The one and only difference a blocked cowl would really make is no fresh air inlet, but everything else would still work with a vent door open.

Doug you have A/C?

I'd be tempted, if "everything else" is gone, to fab some sort of door you can open/ close just for vent.

Car will always be in the garage so I do not think the first opening of the mailbox door would have been a problem.

No a/c....believe the plates are fastened with sheet metal screws, I might just pull the plates out. I will have to stick my head under the dash to see if a door might work......

In your case, Theres no reason for them to be opened. No heat, No vent boxes.

Ya....but..........Adam up here it DOES get a little warm now and then in the summer time, and those vents are nice on the knees. I've missed those all these years, something that modern junk doesn't have!!!

If your going to put the heater box back in, it will be fine. If not your defrosters wont work any way, I would leave the block off covers on.
My Road Runner had no box and no blockoff either. I used the vent window, turned back all the way to sort of defrost my windshield, it Phoenix doesnt get very cold usually, it didnt work too well. Had to use a towel to clear glass while driving. Spring was great though!

Car will not be driven in the winter. I am thinking that if the lack of a defroster/heater becomes much of an issue I am thinking I could mount one of these if need be. A friend had one in his Jeep and said it worked well......

Cowl Induction hood ? Since the higher pressue air might do the motor some good.
