73' B3 340 Duster pro touring build

I like the Roadrunner driving light idea. A lot of work but
surely one-of-a-kind.

Do you actually have a 70 RR front bumper (pic) to cut pieces
out of like you did with the Ram bumper for the rear exhausts?

No, I dont have one or know of anyone close to me that has one so I can get a diameter measurement. The holes are simple enough to cut out so a doner bumper wont be necessary, the only problem I see is that the Road Runner bumper lights are marker/turn signal lights which I already have in the sharktooth grille 12" away.... so it's kind of two of the same thing.

It's not really alot of work...another good day or so of work and it should be downhill from there.

I picked up a set of driving lights today from Summit Racing there Pro Comp 5" spot beam, now I have to make the mounting panel for them which will recess them slightly into the bumper at an angle so there pointing straight. Here's a couple mock up pics to give me a better feel for the overall look, There maybe a little Shelby influence here but I'll never admit that on a Mopar Forum. Any thoughts or opinions ?

I was thinking of doing a similar thing to my 70 Dart. But the darts have a cut out area where the license plate is where I think I may be able to mount them.

Not sure on this one. I don't care one bit about non-mopar influence, but I don't like things getting too "busy".
Maybe when trimmed out and on the car it will be cool.

The Dart bumper cut out would be pretty easy to fill in..I say go for it.

I wanted something Bold and your correct it will look more complete and smoother once the filler panel gets completed, I wasnt sure about 5" diameter lights but I wanted them to fill the space and not look lost, I've seen lots of brand X cars with smaller (like 3") lights and they really look out of place and undersized and then there is DustAAR nice car but to me the lights look too stuck on(no offense meant). I know thats how they are on Cuda's but they look more like an after thought on a Duster bumper.

Still not sure its an improvement over the clean factory look.
Your version kinda suggests a rally car look to me so I wonder if it fits the "theme".
Comes down to personal taste.

I like the look. Your car is going to be great either way. I will say with the Dusters two little lights the additional fogs are a great safety feature and if done right will compliment your build. :cheers:

Had a little time today so I welded some 3/8" carriage bolts to the back side of the bumper by filling the existing square bumper bolt holes with weld and ground them smooth...now I just have to make the recessed filler panel for the lights and weld it in for that "factory" stamped appearance. Brand X guys will never no it didn't come that way. I also opened up the bumper frame bracket adjusting slot to give me an additional 1" of adjustment toward the grille to tuck it in to the body, whats nice about these type of changes are I still have all the movement and then some of the factory brackets, although being 1/4" away from the fender I wont need much side to side adjustment.

I am trying to do some tastful modifications that will make a Duster stand out, since I am smoothing and narrowing the bumpers (both) I decided to go a little farther and really make them unique....not really sure I had a theme going, if I do, it wasn't intensional. Besides the bumper will be so low to the ground most people wont even notice the lights. I did something similar on my Power Wagon and people thought I was trying to give it the Rally/off Road look but I just like that look, that was the one thing I always remember as a kid growing up really making an impression on the Shelby Mustang cars...so I guess it stuck in my head.

When I started some of my Modifications, nobody else was really doing anything close but now it seems there all over the place. I think my standard answer when asked what all is done will be " I wish I could tell ya but ... I just bought the car this way". I really think most people won't notice all the stuff I did, Hell I forget what all I've done and thats without Rum.

that is a nice damn power wagon! I have had a few myself,a couple cool one's,but nothing like that. I am anxious to see your car done with all the mods as well.

Ross, I love the idea of the 5" lights in the front bumper....... Dustaar's build it wonderful but the lights look like frogs eyes. Stay the course.

Also, if you would consider doing that for the Demon I would appreciate it, but I would like them in the rear bumper. After a night of rum I need to be able to see backing up! :sign7:

Okay heres what I came up with, please remember this panel was just quickly tacked in to get a feel for the fitment and what I need to do next, and to be used as a photo op. All the edges line up real close and won't take much to get them fitting nice. I was originally going to use the attached mounting point to secure the lights to the bumper but after looking at it closer I am going to weld some tabs on the side of the mounting circles and use the existing side screws in the light to attach them. To make the circles I welded into the bumper panel I used 1/8" steel cut in 1.5 widths and used a metal roller to roll them into the right size.

Did you include a provision to aim those landing lights? I really like them (No sarcasm) but I'd hate for them to simply illuminate billboards. ;)

The rings were welded in pointing straight ahead...I know the bumper angles back slightly and this was taken in to consideration to keep then straight(notice the buckets or rings are tapered) if anything they will aim more toward the ground instead of the sky, that said I will be slotting the mounting tabs to give me some vertical and horizontal adjustment. There is going to be a rubber ng gasket used for cushioning between the bulb and the 1/8" steel ring for obvious reasons. So the quick answer is "yes" with limited adjustability.
