I was gathering all the original "artifacts" from my wagon and being really careful with them like a paleontologist.....

then I had a thought hit me......why do I even care about this old brittle paper, I am not even going original with the car. I have already changed a whole bunch of stuff with the car including a Big block swap and getting rid of the woodgrain side panel, color change and making an R/T out of it.

Is it really important or worth saving this old stuff for a car that was a 318 car that is nothing like it was when it was new? For the way I am building the car the fender tag is even useless....it is and will be way different

Put it in a sealed bag or laminate the buildsheet and just for the 'fun-to-have'-moment for later, archive it with the rest of the car's papers somewhere.

'Cause we can't help ourselves is why we care.
Original bits or documentation like that is worthless junk but I love worthless junk! That is a small piece of the history of your car from its origin no less.
Think of those as part of the first half of your wagons life, now keep working on bringing the second half.

I saved everything from my Dart even though it is not original. I guess that makes us the same even if we are weird??? LOL

Hey !! You might want to change it back !!:wack:

I saved mine even though it's in worse shape than yours. I'm even keeping all of the stuff I remove from it, even though I am going way far from stock with this build. Like SSVDP said, "Cause we can't help ourselves."

This much I know...
My '70 Dart started life as a slant 6 auto...F8 Green...
VIN# LL23C0R, which tells plenty, but not nearly enough.
I don't have a fender tag or build sheets.
None of it is important as the car is so far from stock, but I'd still like to know what was what, originally, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Possibly, years down the road, you may end up getting rid of it (however unlikely)... and the new owner might like to have that stuff, even if it's meaningless.

I kept mine, Rani. I pressed it in a glass frame like puzzle pieces because it was brittle as well. My car is tremendously different than the car I started with but it reminds me of where I was when I started & to a certain extent, the person I used to be. Good nostalia for me.

I too save what I find,Keep all the oem parts too. Then sell the car and the new owner usually says "naw I don't want any of that".After a few years I pitch it.

It may not represent what the car is to you now, but don't throw it away! It may come in handy later when you are searching for an option code, or to see if it was equipped with an option or not, or what size something was, is, or needs to be! You just never know when you're gonna need something, as I have been finding out a lot lately! It won't take up much room filed away with your other important papers!! Geof

The build sheet for my convertible is in delicate shape, Rani. I put the three pieces together on the glass of my printer/copier and made a photo copy. The digital image is easier to read than the faded original. I use the digital image and filed the original safely away.

I think it is worth it like the factory line pictures some post here to show the younger generation that this is the way cars were built without robots and the build sheet was put under the seat by the spring stain lines.

Sometimes my boys think my world is ancient history and I'm 55.

It's a time capsule from 1968.

Keep and cherish.

Doesn't matter if it's going to be built/rebuilt that way.

I ditched all that crap when I built my coronet. Doing the same to the Barracuda. Dont want someone saying why aint it like the tag and build sheet.

Modified or not, the original broadcast sheet is a page of history. All original paperwork & items tell a story.

If I had a face lift & a heart transplant, my birth certificate would not be tossed away.

Why do you care? Because you value history, have intelligence, and patience enough to due the archeology. It won't be wasted time 10 years from now. Or even a year from now when it's getting altered.

Just because I am changing pretty well everything on my Scamp doesn't mean I'm going to throw out its numbers driveline, mint broadcast sheet or fendertag even if it is a 318 car. Just put everything in a safe place and if you ever change your mind you will still have it all.

it is really not fair because I have a 67 cuda that is a big block car and it was in pieces when I got it and there was no build sheet and I think the fender I got with it might be the wrong one. no documents on the one car I have that I would like to have it .....yet

on the other hand I have this big brown wagon that was a 318 car (WP45F8 ) and its a mutt of a car and was never really worth much compared to pedigree cars yet I have the numbers matching driveline (318/904) and build sheets and fender tag and glove box full of history.

this is not fair....i wish it was the other way around

I kept mine and it's the same story with my car... It's just a piece of paper anyway not like it takes up much room lol.
