Got a question here guys. My buddy who is a chevy guy has a '63 413 block, crank, and rods sitting in the corner of his garage. After staring and drooling at it he tells me to make an offer on it..... So basically just wondering what itd be worth. What would you guys pay for it?

Obviously not a lot to him as a Chevy guy lol! Whatever core prices are in your area is what it's worth.

All 413's were not max wedges back then. The heads and pistons (compression ratio) makes a max wedge along with intake/carb combos and exhaust systems. tmm

Thats the bad thing he wont do nothing with it but he knows what a max wedge is and thinks its worth alot. If the heads and intake were there YEAH!!, but jus block, crank, and rods.

Ok, yeah theres no pistons so me personally not sure if it is, he just said he had one and showed me the shortblock. What would be a reasonable offer I could make? Dont wanna seem like im rippin him but then again I dont wanna overpay. Im building a '60s era street rod and wanna keep its mid 60's

A 413 block, crank and rods would be worth about $100 around here! I passed on a completely rebuilt 413 dual quad motor for $600 here, small valve 516 heads on a basically stock rebuild! Yea, if it has the max wedge heads and intake stuff you'd be talking some serious bucks, but just the block, crank and rods....not so much!!

413 block in Ks is tops 150-200 add in 150.00 steel crank. so fair offer is 350.00 tops. If you build a 440 and put a A/A crossram on it you have the same thing (a clone). A 413 bored out to 426 is still a over bored 413. No matter how you wrap a turd it still stinks. Bad thing is you gotta buy it before getting it sonic checked to see if it can even be bored far enough to be what you want. I would pass and let him dream

I say it's worth scrap value. Only pistons available for it are from Egge and cost between 400-500 bucks. For STOCK CAST PISTONS. Piston availability sucks because of the small bore. Get a 440.

That's ^^^^^^ the only way it is not worth scrap is if it's a Max Wedge. Otherwise, it's a good doorstop.

$100 tops for what he has. You'll have to "find" the correct heads then the right pistons to make what your after. Tell him he's in dreamland for thinking he has a "gold mine" sitting there when he really has a rather large door stop.

Jim

Thanks alot guys for the heads up. I know just what with he has its no goldmine because of the fact thers no heads or intake.. ill make him an offer and if he dont like it ill move on.

IF it is a real Max Wedge block, crank, and rods were all special. They are worth a lot, maybe not to you. Chrysler did all kinds of special things to "Race" engines of that era. If a regular 413, it is just another big block like all the rest.

If it ain't a Max Wedge, I'll be damned if I would make him an offer. You're a glutton for punishment. We're trying to give you some good advice here. Listen to it. If it's not a Max Wedge, save your "offer" for a 440. Don't be dumb. Don't get lured in because you think it's cool. If it's not a Max Wedge, it's basically worthless. Not trying to be a smartass here. Piston availability is either very expensive stock cast pistons or very expensiver custom pi$ton$ to the tune of around a THOUSAND DOLLARS. Leave the engine sittin there. It's a boat anchor if it's not a Max Wedge. If it's not a Max Wedge and you buy it, your "friend" will have gotten it over on you big time.

Wrong. It's not like all the rest. It's a pig in a poke. You cannot get affordable off the shelf pistons for it. Some of yall need to clean your ears out. If it's not a Max Wedge, it's a piece of ****. The 413 has an oddball bore size and cannot be bored to a popular one such as the 440. It is not thick enough. I'm not even gonna come close to givin the guy bad advice.

SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR A 440!

I havn't been around the maxi crowd in quite a few years, BUT the guys with the REAL cars generally used a 440 block and added the maxi heads, intake, etc to that. way cheaper way to build the car. my advise is listen to these guy's advice!!?????
again IF it was a real maxi block it would have a value..
