Lets get a few more opinions then i'll post the part number. Thats my point actually, many of the "common" references are not completely accurate. You know.... dont believe everything you read.

I'm sure your referring to the wide marking going down the center of the crank which usually means it is a forged unit.

Definitely forged.

The wide parting lines on the throws and the rounded edges on the counter-weights give it away as a forged piece.

You have any better pictures? Cannot see if the line is narrow or wide?
Wide Forged
Narrow cast

Ok enough guessing. Perhaps the pics could be better of the parting lines but I always look at the "raw" portions first and that should tell you with some certainty the mfrg. process. See those curved areas where the cheeks transition to the mains, also the throw ledges are.very rounded. Thats classic forging.

The number you ask? 2658278. The point is many "references" are repeated and copied ad-infinitum until it becomes truth. Perhaps these are oddities (ie Mopar in general) and most of the '278 were castngs, who knows?

Fyi - a new guy here maybe (and hello by the way), but 25 years of professional competition engine building has taught me to never stop questioning. LOTS of misinformation out there folks.

Forged, look at the "bead" in first picture....

And the quiz isn't supposed to be until Friday....

Why did you ask the question if you already knew the answer???

Give it a light tap with a hammer, if it has a high pitched ring then it is forged, if it does not ring and makes a lower pitched thud its crap....I mean cast.:D

Why did I ask? I believe I answered that in my last post. The listings often quoted here (and. elsewhere on the interwebz) are often factually incorrect.

I also thought picture quizzes are occasionally entertaining and (based on the number of incorrect answers here), educational. Thats why its a "quiz" ..... the answer is known and its a test.

Some more factual experiences that may shock those that operate on wives tales and "buddies". The ring test is better than nothing but occasionally flat wrong. A forging can ring loud and.clear and still be cracked. Often it is in the rod end and i have even seen it at the rear main. The ONLY way to verify a cranks condition is take it to a professional (and trust me there arent many of those left) and have it magd , preferably fluid suspension but powder will find most problems. Not mention a ring wont tell you if its still straight and round...

I assume most people wouldnt assemble an engine without going past a simple ring test however.

Lastly, many of the newer cast STEEL cranks ring very close to a forging also but thats where obvious visual differences should guide you. Hope this helps some of you.

100% forged and there are some on this thread that need an eye examine 100%.

I passed, where's my report card???? :evil3:

I think it's more a case of the pictures taken that make things look different. Once someone has seen a forged crank's parting line - there is no comparison. But from hundreds of miles away, a poorly taken picture can make them look similar and not give enough indicators.

Yep, it would help to have better pictures.... :D

I didn't fail the eye exam...

When the Dr. asked me to read the bottom line, I said, "Printed in USA"....
