My Welder

-
I was running flux core (but it does have a bottle) outside in the wind. I was just working at its max duty cycle and it let me know it about every ten minutes. Wait 20 minutes for it to settle down, then weld some more. Makes projects a little time consuming. Im just whining i guess. Dont usually need a bigger machine, but it sure would be nice today..

Ben, what is going on with your welder? Since I sold my 383-s, I have doing a fair share of welding on my 71 Barracuda. Need any help?

I appreciate it Rod. I'm welding up a rotisserie and using a welder that is barely up to the task. I'll just have to go slow. I'm not even planning to use the thing til next year sometime. Just had the chance at free materials. I'm sure ill get it knocked out in a week or so. I appreciate the offer. .

Even my 180A Linc MIG has a duty cycle. I've shut it down several times due to "too long" a big bead, LOL

I know how you feel. My Clarke MIG 130 EN doesn't allow you to weld for very long on the high power settings.

On the other hand, I used my friend's Hobart Handler 190 to weld up his LCAs for his 71 Demon yesterday and that thing worked really, really nice. Once I had it set we were both making pro looking welds.

Thanks for making me feel a little better a out it. At least i managed to get the 2 ends knocked out (ran out of paint tho)

I see the nose of your notchback. What are your plans for it?

If I didn't already have a rotisserie lined up here in Amarillo, I would offer to rent yours.

When i get it done, you're welcome to it. I wont be using it for quite a while. Got a 73 Swinger donor car, already put the suspension in the notch. The 318, trans and power steering next. Then i have to finish the Scout before i put the notch on the rotisserie. .

I have a co-worker that has said I can borrow his. I am putting in a chassis stiffening kit from US Car Tools right now. I will be welding the sub-frame connectors in enough on my back to help keep the car from flexing when I put new quarters and trunk for my 71 Barracuda.

I bought QA1 tubular upper control arms, 1 1/8 front sway bar, and PST 1.03 torsion bars are planned. I will be putting rear disc brakes, new leaf springs, and a bigger rear sway bar. I also am going to fabricate mounts for rack and pinion steering. It should handle nicely when I am done. I hope to drive this car everywhere!

Sounds badass. I'll have to make a road trip and come check it out..

Anytime you make it up to Amarillo, you are welcome to come check out my car and my son's 67 notchback. PM me when you want to come over.

I cut a circular hole in the side of my 220 volt harbor freight mig welder and installed a high flow fan that blows from the outside thru the wall of the welder directly on the transformer. The hot air then exits all the existing vent louvers all over welder. I run flux core wire exclusively.

The fan = 110 volt about 230 cfm.I It is a mechatronics UF15KM. This type of fan makes good pressure too. It increased the duty cycle considerably. I can run the hell out of my mig and have been running it hard for several years.

This is nothing like the little rotating turd that the factory installs to cool the transformer but you can power the new fan off the feed to the factory fan. mechatronics makes 220 volt fans of the same size so if you have a 220 volt welder, I suggest you check the volts at the factory fan and order the correct voltage.

The only reason I run a 110 v fan is bc I already had it.
