How do you cool you motor in between passes?

Anybody have any tips or advice on this?
How much time do you typically have at your track in between passes? 30 minutes? An hour?
Right now all I have is a box fan blowing on the motor and I don't know if it's doing any good or if it's a waste of time.

You can run your defroster on high between runs and that will cool her down. Some folks use a bag of ice on the intake. Some carry a spray tank and spray down the radiator. Obviously, only fire the car to move it up and stop it right away or push it through the staging lanes. On an efi car you don't want it to be too cool.

We always sprayed the radiator with a bug/weed spray tank filled with water. Most tracks should have water available for refill as needed....
 
Electric fan & water pump drive.
During the hot Summer months, I will use a box fan in front of the car angled up towards the radiator.

This helps in the later rounds in 90+ temps.
 
I run a electric water pump and fan. It takes about 10-15 minutes to cool down in hot weather. In cooler weather I just turn the water pump on for a few minutes.

Sounds like a lot of votes for an electric water pump, which makes sense for several reasons. I've been avoiding that because the electric pump setup for the GenIII hemi that I run is around $1000. I would like to circulate the water through the radiator in the pits though...

Use the Moroso setup with the electric motor and belt.
 
Meziere makes a couple of divorced style water pumps. You'd just have to come up with a plate for some AN fittings on your newish Hemi. On my small block I have an extension cord wired into my pump and fan. I can cut the battery switch off on the car and hook my cord up to a deep cycle battery I always carry along. Let it run as long as I want without draining the cars battery.
 
Mezieres make one for the 5.7 and 6.1....with the backing plate...almost 900 bucks....

Ice on the intake works good. That's how we did it.

If you have a boxfan that means you have access to power. I ran a setup in the duster that worked extremely well. The motor would be cool in around 10mins. I took a decent sized cooler (any bucket would do), added a sump pump, filled with water, with 2 hoses that were attached to the heater hoses on the motor using 3/8" air line fittings (mine had to be hidden so i ran the factory heater hoses down to the floor board under the dash) Between rounds hook up the lines, turn the pump on, and let it circulate.
 
I leave the fans on for maybe 5 minutes. Pulls it down under 180 for the re-start.
 
I would like to see some pictures ?? As this thread moves along we are finding the out more about the car. Motor, current cooling system ect... are you just using water or coolant? The op just tells us of a drag car that over heats. Do you have a fan shroud ? I personally have gotten lucky I guess in this category as I've yet to have a cooling problem with any combination. I personally run to homemade electric fans on the radiator and just traded in my Moroso belt drive electric pump for the real thing. I know these are expensive options for you but maybe is it possible something stupid is being overlooked (it would be in my cass) like a sticking thermostat or restrictive area? again the picture looking at your cooling area would be cool (excuse the pun lol) who knows maybe like a fan shroud is missing or something? I'm just spitting in the wind here at this point, but hoping it's something easy. I know I don't like spending crazy money on stupid little aftermarket parts. And then trying to get them to fit..:banghead:
 
I had the same problem. i put a 12 inch pusher fan in front of the radiator on a switch, just shut the engine off and turn the fan on , it works grate. the water circulates enough to cool the engine without the pump running. its grate when you get stuck in traffic jams to.

I have a pusher and a puller but when I swap to the new radiator I'll have twin 13" pullers.
 
Don't laugh I am telling my age but I have watched the "Little Red Wagon" back in the day return to the Pits after a pass and they literally had a brass fitting fitted to each cylinder head which one opened up like a petcock and dumped hot water (he only ran water at that time thru the engine) on the ground in the pits and hooked a garden hose to the other and pumped fresh cool water thru it as it was running to cool it off. I don't think the Pit officials will let you do that any more got to keep mother earth green nowdays and they might be afraid you would spill coolant not water on the ground.
 
After I made the switch to e85 l don't need the fan till after round 3-4, it runs nice and cool. When I do need cooling, I have have a Moroso elec water pump drive (with the belt) + a Chevy HHR fan. The fan is fully shrouded and pulls a TON of air...and only cost 50 bucks from Rockauto.com.
 
On very hot days I'll drive the front of the car onto ramps and use a carpet dryer aimed up at the block. I picked up this tip from a very good bracket racer in my area and works quite well. Still not as good as circulating the cooling system with an electric water pump, but usually I can get the equivalent of 20 minutes of sitting with no fan in 5 minutes.
