I tried getting Spence to pose next to some celebrities but he declined. I thought 'the Donald' seemed a little stiff and his opponent seemed to have a big head. I felt under-dressed.

That's a lot of nice rides! Great diversity, too.

I spent a lot of time looking over each vehicle. You never know what you'll learn when you're checking out modifications. Almost every Camaro and Chevelle won awards. It's hard not to feel there was a bias but when the most important judging criteria was cleanliness and detailing - they may have deserved the wins. As much as I do enjoy the all Mopar shows, I also like the diversity at shows like this one.

I'd like to see judging changed at these small town shows. I think they should have a check list of stuff that is more important than how clean a car is. The way they have it now, true daily drivers don't stand a chance. It's more like a show to award those that trailer their cars and rarely drive them.

If they awarded points for plug and engine compartment wire routing, rarity, creativity, uniqueness, paint, engineering, etc... I also would like them to have the shows set up so that half the time the doors, hoods, and trunks would be closed so that you could judge the overall stance & appearance.

I think they should have a photo of every entrant so they could display the image of the winning vehicles as they're announced. - That way people would actually know which cars won.

Sorry, but a third of those vehicles shouldn't even be in a show. Nothing worth showing. lol

I agree but you can't ban them Chebby guys.

I think the pink Muskrat must have even had the other 'Stang guys wanting to vomit. It looked like it was painted with a brush using flat Tempra paint. The Zebra skin seat covers combined with the 'My Little Pony' theme made it harder to look at than nudie pictures of Rosie O'donnell.

To be fair, some of the cars that were rough were in an unrestored 'survivor' class. Even still, I wouldn't have considered them material to enter into a car show. A few of the big gunboats won trophies because there was a class for those years and they had no competition.

It sometimes gets discouraging when you watch the awards given out to cars that the owners haven't done any of the work on themselves, beaters that win because they were entered in classes without competition, cars that never had any appeal when they were new and have even less now, brand new cars that guys buy and enter, etc, etc...

Most of the Mopars there were pretty nice. 4 of them got awards. - A Yellow Jacket 392 Challenger, a Rat Rod, a '74 Barracuda, and a Hellcat.

I wonder if that pink Mustang is a 'pink ribbon' car? You know, breast cancer charity? It has a logo on the windshield.

The new Challenger is awesome, I think, even if I think using the design language of the 70:ies slightly updated is kind of cheating.

The 'Cuda is fantastic. Having seen more pics of that incarnation of it, I've swung over to think it's the coolest muscle car ever, taking over the first spot from the '69 Camaro. However, You posted a pic of a red '69 Camaro with hideous rims that turned me off totally.

I try to refrain from making comments about large diameter wheels on early musclecars. As much as they don't fit my personal taste, some guys have been able to pull it off and they look good. I usually think of donks when I see them though.

You mean that you didn't have an issue with these wheels???

Here in rural Nebraska most folk are caucasian. The only vehicle entered by a black person was the car above. Obviously it didn't match my taste.

I've always wondered why so many Hispanics seemed to like the lowriders and so many blacks liked them donks. I guess they're wondering why so many of us honkies like big tires on the back and skinnies up front. - And maybe they cringe when they see them.

That one turned me off too but I think that falls in a category of its own. It's a style, sort of. The red Camaro is a very nice restored car with the wrong wheels.

But I guess you're right, it's probably a cultural thing. You probably get to like low riders if you see them all the time and if the hood is full of ridiculously large rims, it starts to look good.

To each his own.

And good morning! :)

Good Morning to you too Anders. I've speculated that the move towards large diameter wheels may have been due to the influence of some of the small scale die cast toy cars that started showing up decades ago. I do think you're right about it being a cultural thing but I have a hard time getting myself to believe those donks look good to anyone. I've become a fuddy-duddy I guess. I don't get the pants hanging down halfway either. I'm sure people that wear those like that style too.

I really, really have tried to get myself to appreciate all the various car cultures. It's been a struggle. I can understand the people that get into the Rat Rods. They can circumvent the expensive paint and interiors and not have to worry about road rash. - Heck, they don't even have to worry about rust. Some of their builds use a lot of imagination and are probably fun to do.

I do like some of the elaborate paint schemes on lowriders.

I think the late 80:ies, early 90:ies cars, well, what are you going to do to make them special? The 24" rims could be the natural route. It's not like the tricks used on 40, 50, 60 or 70:ies cars would work as well on them. They're too blocky. You can't turn a 1986 Cutlass Ciera into a slammed and chopped 1950 Mercury no matter how hard you try.

The rat rod circus is a lot of fun. Enormous amounts of creativity. Anything goes. Semi truck wheels, re-bar grilles, three foot shifter handles. I like it. I wouldn't go there myself but that's just me.

Myself , I don`t understand what a run of the mill mustang, corvette, or new car is doing in a car show. there are hoards of them and their nothing special no matter what u do to them. a hummer, come on , really !
