New SHORT muscle car fan clutch!!

some of our members actually had a hand in the R&D of that one, let me see if i can find the thread on that

[2 minutes of searching] Short Shaft Fan Clutch [/2 minutes of searching]

Yes I remember posting in that thread quite a bit. A somewhat longer clutch I use in my demon 340 is one out of a 78 or so Pontiac sun fire with a 350.

How much do they cost? Where do you get them?

We've got less than 1/4" to our radiator from our clutch fan....

I know two different resto shops I told today and both are ordering on Tuesday !

Does the heavy duty one still require the centering bushing that the Shaguar one has, or is its hub made to fit directly on american cars?

How much shorter is it than the original stock one???

I'm not sure since the one I have is their prototype with the smaller diameter mounting flange. Mine required a bushing. Maybe someone who has bought the 2947 will speak up.

How long is the original clutch?

Whadduya askin' me for???

No, we have an old used one, that was a little loose. We bought a new clutch and fan from mancini, and it's less than 14" from the radiator fins, and we only have a two row....

I could measure it, but we need to agree on how to measure so our measurements are comparable (apples to apples).

I will have to dig it up and see if I can find a way that the total depth can be measured easily...

Put it on your bench with the mounting flange flat on the bench. Put a straight edge on the highest point and measure down to the bench. Easy enough... Then subtract that measurement from 2.71".

Just a note FWIW. Here might be a good example for the 3/4" fan to radiator clearance recommendation in the MP book..........
Crunch! Battle Scar
I`ve got one that is 3 1/4" tall, w/ supossedly a 7 blade hemi fan on it. it`s too tall for my set up. think the new one might work !!

I'm getting 2.95" for our stock e-body one and 3.046" for the new Mancini one...

I'm not sure that will get me to 3/4", but may be just under...

Or maybe go with a solid fan and see if I can find a short spacer...

I'll have to remeasure the space I have when my car gets out of the body shop to see which I need. I'm guessing the bushing went on the centering pin?

I measured off my water pump pulley snout fwd to my aluminum radiator that was made by (quality engineered products) and had 3&1/4" so the shaguar one will give me approx 3/4" clearance if its 2.61" i like the idea of the heavy duty one, however i would like the cushion of a bit more clearance.

very nice radiator. Stamped aluminum tanks. Mine was made for 73-76 A body needed it that way for the inlet and outlet required for my 78 360, and 74 318. I cut off the late model 73 up aluminum mount flanges, and fabricated new flanges from same thickness .125" aluminum sheet with mount holes to fit my 1967 radiator support, i glued them in place with jb weld and clamped with equally spaced cleco pins. Afterwards i drilled out the cleco pin holes with a #21 drill, and installed MS20470AD-5 button head aircraft solid rivets. Between the rivets, and the JB weld i doubt i will have any flange mounts loosening up.

Being that my car was originally slant sux, and i am doing a V8 swap, i needed everything. So besides the shaguar fan clutch, i am looking at the flexalite #5718 which is a 18" diameter 6 blade fan that works with a fan clutch unit. I am wondering if that will be a sufficient diameter fan. Ultimately i plan on a 400hp 360. For now prob a mild 318 They list it in 17", 18", and 19" diameters.

Mine is a 72 dart. It had a /6 now a 340 with a champion 3 core radiator. I have the new hayden clutch and it gives me a little over a 1/2 inch. I also have a motor mount swap kit not sure what brand. I hope that helps
