Budget racing the old nuts & bolts

Okay got the wife out for another test fitting for the shifter. I'm going to patch that hole in the floorboard where the four speed hump went, then Mount up that shift her and let her give it another test. She was enthusiastically banging at the ratchet shifter during testing so this is a good sign...

Okay the hole patched up nicely and I got the shifter mocked up but waiting for my wife to come home and give it the definite okay. Then I'll go ahead and weld everything up tomorrow and try and get some paint on it. Of course after everything's welded up and before I paint it I'll grind off all the points and rough edges.

I had a question: is it possible to create a full manual without a shift kit? Just thinking out loud. I see the instructions saying throw this ball out and drill a hole here or there?

(2-1/8) and uses inside clips.
It's a standard small joint 904 yoke.

It takes a different manual valve in the valve body to do that, along with a couple of block off plates and body drilling..
Taking it's balls out and drilling holes is for more oil flow to apply bands and clutches faster.
The balls restrict fluid flow and make the fluid flow through a certain size hole to make the factory shifts comfortable, and then the ball moves from the bigger hole it blocks and lets the fluid come back quicker when things release.
The stage 3 Transgo kit makes it a full manual.

Check it out, TransGo TF6, TF8, 904, and 727: TF-3

I got my stage 2 kit a lot cheaper on Ebay than anywhere else.
A local shop told me $325 and I laughed at them.:D
Got it on Ebay for 115

Here's what you want and it's in CA also. TF-3 TRANSGO FULL MANUAL SHIFT KIT

Oh, and your Wife banging on the shifter checking it out is a VERY good sign.
Was she making engine sounds while she was doing it?
That's a better sign yet.:D

I gotta go put my newly painted beak back on.
I hate it when a part isn't on and I have to drive the car.:D

Yes the t-3
I was making the engine noises as I'm good at sound effects but she was banging the gears!

It's matter of how long she wants to have her right hand off the steering wheel. And how fast she can get to the shifter. She likes to drive with both hands on the wheel 10 and two LOL. The shifter is strategically placed 6" directly to the right of the wheel.

Why is the shifter mounted so high up. I have never seen that before. I mounted my shifter on the 4 speed hump in my Demon. I do not have a picture.

Her banging the shifter is awesome!

Your need to junk your welder or run shield gas....
:)
Or just send it to me and I'll make it for ya!

No charge buddy!

110% Agreed, back when I was in my early twenties I welded professionally believe it or not. I can weld and lay down the correct bead with the correct equipment but this Harbor Freight welder gets me by and does the little projects I want to do. Bang for the buck it's done everything I wanted it to. Of course I used my uncle's a welder when I did my roll bar LOL. Wait til I paint it VHT SP756. Like everything on the 318/904 will be...

edit: thank you for the offer

Well that was the last thing I needed for the motor (paint) and now I basically have to be put this TF-3 TRANSGO kit in the valve body for the first time to finally finish the 904 I rebuilt for the first time.
(I may have to put thos question to the transmission part of the forum if needed)
Pic#1 How and with what have you used to make the size adjustment to that valve??? I don't own a lathe.
pic#2 How do I want to adjust the pump?
Probably street/strip.

Oh, the governor valve is what you meant in the message you sent.:D

Street strip is what you want the PR valve spring adjusted for, and I did the governor valve with a 4 inch grinder with a cut off wheel.

It doesn't have to be perfectly round where you grind as it is mostly to lighten it, just stay away from the outer edge surface of that last 1/8.
Without a lathe it takes some patience.

That's where I used to add another halve of a governor spring I mentioned.
Grinding that valve is to lighten it, so it spins out later in the driveline speed delaying the shift to higher RPM's.

10-4 I'm damn good with a cut off wheel, but man thats a small piece. Damn the torpedoes....

Me too, but sometimes I'll go even farther and use a Mototool and cutoff wheel but that's a lot of meat for a Mototool.

Sometimes I even put the 4" grinder in the vise lightly and zip tie the trigger down.:D
It still cuts quick and is a lot more stable for accuracy.

Ya cheap skate. Send me the valve and I'll trim it off in the lathe for FREE. Take me about 10 minutes. I'll even flat rate it back to you.

Good Lord man that would require patience! I'll have it done tomorrow before it would even be sent out. But thank you for the offer.
