Budget racing the old nuts & bolts

-
When it stops becoming fun......

I like to drag race. But a constant at the track and beating down the door to a consistent ET & points chasing is a bit more than I'm up for. Driving 2 hours through NYC and the insane bridge crossing costs ... I think we're up to $15 a bridge, 3 bridges and a toll road to E-Town ....

It's about a Beji to just walk through the door.

A few times a year when I have the bug is fine.

The drive and the toll bridges would drive me nuts. My M-I-L is having a second cancer surgery a week from tomorrow and to get there you have to go over some toll roads. What a pisser.

And the surgery is scheduled on a day I have a doctors appointment. So, it's sit in the chair for 3.5 hours getting the needle and then a 3 hour drive to the hospital.

Can someone please edit this and repost? I'm having trouble with the text like sentences.

It's a lingo thing YR. Gotta be a indigenous Indian.

@dirty white boy

E-town is the closest by 6 miles from the most northern Jersey track and 1/2 quicker, time of day dependent/day dependent. Next set of close race tracks are 5/6 hours away. 4 of which are clear hey. driving speeds. Atco being in southern Jersey and one upstate New York. Worthy tracks to go to but boy oh boy your traveling!

True! Roads here are hammered!
It is a multi fold problem. Horrible weather, salt/sanding in winter.
Underground springs that uproot the roads in winters freeze and then disappear leaving holes under the pavement that collapses into a pot hole.
Mad house traffic pouring the pavement and creating bigger holes.
Construction crews are swamped with under budgeted temp repairs.
It's tuff!

Food?!?!

OH YEA BABY! She many people from so many places bring in there home cooking!

Just got back from the coast. Had to have a few days away from the outer city. Recharge ourselves.
I've had a couple of "wow" moments in the duster and definitely lots of "holy crap" moments on the snowmobile, but yesterday when we were heading down the coast in the motorhome toodling along at 55 mph and we get to a part of the highway that is exposed to the direct side wind off the ocean...well lets put it this way - at about the point I was holding the steering wheel at the 2 o'clock position to hold that motorhome straight at 55 mph you couldn't have drove a tack in my *** with a 20lb sledgehammer!!!

Our last trip to Woodburn dragstrip was a turning point. all day for three passes is not fun to me. Just under a one-hour trailer ride each way and they did drop it from 50 to 40 race. Track prep is great. Of course this track is official drag track kind of track all the races are mostly for points and have classes. I think there is a Friday night test and tune but I've never been there for that. On the other hand close by is Portland International Raceway that has a Friday Saturday night test and tune night. It's usually $30 to race and you can take anywheres from 5 to 7 passes and up to Unlimited amounts of passes depending on how many people show up. Track prep is non-existent but on the other hand that's good for not breaking parts. Wednesday nights they have an 1/8 mile racing and that's all four points and also never been to that but may try once I get the car where I want it. Now with this smaller motor and automatic we should be able to just drive it down to PIR which would be about 25 minutes at the most down Marine Drive which is a beautiful Road following the Columbia River. Here also we can do something all day long on a Friday or Saturday And put the car on the trailer at 5 p.m. and get there at 5:30 and race and take passes for a few hours and go home.

Looks like I should be able to get the motor and transmission in over the weekend. - if all goes well...

Every dog has its day...

But only one day... lol

It should go alright. Looks like you're all setup to get it done. I just always find there's always some **** small thing you forget or didn't foresee that ends up taking 4 hours to fix. But I hope ya get it in there so you can get to racing.

HA! Marine drive in rush hour will take you 4 hours just from 122nd to I-5!

And another thing I don't want to give away my local Secrets button don't go all the way down to I-5 that's craziness down there at that time of day. I go around the back side of Delta Park and avoid all that I-5 insanity.

I have no clue on anything or how far that is. So as a comparison

Rush hour drive from the train station to my house is 6 miles and approx. 25 minutes.
The old drive from just inside the NYC border to my house is a 50 mile trip nearly to the tenth of a mile. Rush hour traffic time 2 hours, off rush (11:30 pm leave time) 45 minutes. Holiday weekend 3 hours +
Accident on the Hwy. 4+
Multi car wreck, dinner at the nearest restaurant with desert and coffee followed by what ever remains of the trip.
Hurricane, NorEaster, snow storm. Overnight stay. Because it is just easier than sitting in a car for 6 hours.

Not tryin to trump and claim worst in the world, just saying what I have been through.

Been "Stuck" at work multi times for extended stay lasting 3 days or better.
Pay was good, and that's it.

You win? I guess? LOL

There's no back up on Marine Drive YR is just not taking his medicine again. Now when you get right at I-5 and people trying to get on or off I-5 yeah that can be a nightmare especially if any of the said things were going on...

I did decide I'm not going to paint the whole damn transmission pink. I'll just paint the backside of the bellhousing. I think today I just have to put the finishing touches on that transmission it's been 4 days so I got to go out there and see where I left off. I think it's just that I have to do to the case itself like put in a plug and change a Big Spring and then I can go ahead and adjust the Bands put the valve body on and put the cover back on on. Then on to slipping the torque converter on and finally the wedding.
Oh yeah I'm not sure if I mentioned it but the one thing that I did not seal on this Motor was the actual drain plug. Kind of pisses me off that I did that much work to seal this up correctly and had no idea the drain plug would drip! I tried the obvious and tightened it a little bit more and nothing. So I'll have to pull the plug on the two and a half quarts of oil that I have in there that I used to Prime the motor with and check that oil is going to both heads. As stupid and simple as it sounds I've never had this problem before so I've never had to fix it period I'm just wondering if it needs a new bushing in there of some sort. Well another little detail I'll have to sort out today.

Wrong, you must have came through there when there was an accident? At 4 or 5 in the evening any "traffic" would be heading east from town anyways?

What? Unless you are on MD clear out in east PDX and get of at 122nd then there is traffic always.

Of course, my traffic jams are so small that the local radio stations don't ever have have a traffic update. And, if you get behind an ABF driver with triples or an old woman in her motorhome (or both) you need a lunch for the trip. I personally never used MD when pulling doubles or triples in any weather.

Yup PDX traffic sucks.

Still on my meds. Glad you are concerned for my welfare. I'll hook you up when I come and get my bumper.

BTW, if you get my bumper...I can pick it up next week. Or I may (might possibly maybe) come over for the Chrysler race at WB on 7/23. I could get it there.

Let me know.

Damn it man you jinxed me!
Got the valve body out of the way put the transmission back up on the workbench popped off a spring got ready to get going and got called to work :BangHead:
Should have all of the weekend though...

Well that just mean's today wasn't your day! There's still Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or my personal favourite. Beerday. Which really is everyday.

Well one good thing I made a few bucks so I might be able to get some transmission fluid and some small little things I think I need to get the tranny lines and transmission cooler.

One question I do have is the transmission kit for the low reverse servo has spring they want you to put in there but it also says if the spring doesn't fit you don't have to just leave the stock one in? Well it'll be a song and dance now that I have the damn thing together to get that spring in there. I'll have to take the tail housing off to take the pin out to get the lever out. I'm thinking about just leaving it alone it is just the reverse first gear return spring? What does that have to do with shifting hard?
