Budget racing the old nuts & bolts

-
Well one good thing I made a few bucks so I might be able to get some transmission fluid and some small little things I think I need to get the tranny lines and transmission cooler.

One question I do have is the transmission kit for the low reverse servo has spring they want you to put in there but it also says if the spring doesn't fit you don't have to just leave the stock one in? Well it'll be a song and dance now that I have the damn thing together to get that spring in there. I'll have to take the tail housing off to take the pin out to get the lever out. I'm thinking about just leaving it alone it is just the reverse first gear return spring? What does that have to do with shifting hard?

Sometimes firmer springs not only make a firmer shift, but also make a quicker release because it doesn't take as long for the spring to decompress.
Personally I don't think it's a critical mod for what you need the trans to do.
The statement that "if it doesn't fit to use the old one" tells you how much difference it makes.

I never get tired of hearing what I want.
But I have hopefully one of my last AT questions - I don't have any problem making a couple hard lines to go out to the front of the motor I'm concerned about attaching it to a transmission cooler via some rubber hosing using hose clamps? And the added pressure of this stage 3 shift kit? I'm obviously under the impression this will have to be some high heat semi high pressure hose.

Okay smarty-pants, I'm sure you don't know Jack about automatic transmissions just the same as I don't but here's my situation- I'll shoot a picture of the ends of any cooler probably the one I'm going to use hopefully a friend has. And you can only imagine that if I get a piece of tubing and bend it and the end of it is going to be just a bear cut off piece of tubing. how do I press fit something onto it and press fit something onto this cooler?

Better yet, use push lock hose. They don't need clamps and IIRC they are pressure rated high enough to work on your trans.

Seen too many regular hose clamps fail to take a chance on them.

Just put 2 hose clamps on it. That is what I do.

EFI fuel line is capable of holding180psi, 300 degrees and abrasion resistant.
The rubber outer stuff, not the solid nylon12.
It can also be used with clamps (2 if it were mine):D

Also offset the tightening screws 180 degrees from each other, or as close to that as possible.

I ASSumed you had a cooler that took AN style fittings.

As I said, seeing hose clamps fail I always use anAN style fitting on stuff like that. I don't like to be penny wise and C note foolish.

Okay little mr. yr go up to the chalkboard and write the title of this thread 500 times after school! LMAO!!
ASSUMED at your age, you should be ashamed....

Ok I'm hoping tomorrow WILL be the day?
Plan A : tomorrow get transmission and motor ready to go in, put in Sunday, start connecting everything Monday.
Now if the Lord jumps on board with this plan I'll have it licked no problem.

Well that just mean's today wasn't your day! There's still Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or my personal favourite. Beerday. Which really is everyday.

Eat your kibble and you'll get your day!

Just be glad you got a spot to work on your transmission. I have to put a new converter/VB in mine. But with no garage/shop to do it in I'm kinda stuck paying someone to do it. I mean I could always just do it on the street in front of my house. But with my luck, I'm sure one of my elderly neighbors won't notice my feet sticking out from under the car and drive right over my legs!

I totally hear you. Actually half the stuff I've been doing to the car lately is undoing all the make-shift crap I did to it when I got it and didn't have a garage. Change 7 1/4 to 8 1/4 in apartment driveway. Renting my uncle's driveway for a week to put in the 4 speed and using the free towing on my insurance to get it back and forth LOL. It makes me nuts to thnk of all the people who could do all the things you want to and don't ! :BangHead:

I like..... what's the screen or whatever it is in where the water pump gasket goes?

I started with getting the correct fittings and lines for the trans. Finished the last couple steps with the shift kit. Put VB back on and set the bands. Sealed cover and fabricated a bracket to hold the cable for my on-board VP thing. Puzzled togather all the bolts, nuts, and washers to merry the two. So converter, flex plate, dust cover, and starter. Plus a bunch of other stuff- productive for sure.
Hopefully rolling into again a productive day tomorrow.
Lots of bolts searching - there's a lot to putting together an entire separate operation. So far I'm reusing the alternator (haven't even unplugged wires-just the two bolts), same starter as it has to come off anyways.

Nope. No problem. I skimmed through and missed some key posts where you talk about setting the car up for your wife (very cool btw). I had to much sun and beer yesterday so it didnt make sense. Does now though lol

Okay cycled my coffee and I'm off!
I always start with the hardest part first in almost everything I do. First, get all the underlying stuff done starting from the back.
driveline, trans cross member, shift linkage, vp cable, bend and attach hard lines, attach ds header to the exhaust, starter wires (pita), motor mount nuts.
I'm going to actually start by cleaning up yesterday's mess, making a nice clean space to open a gift I've been saving for this very moment....a slip yoke to fit the 904
THANK YOU

with a little help, you should have it running tonight, EASY.

Isn't this little thing cute? It sure is in Nice condition! A lot better than the one that I took off.
