Super tuning car runs good shooting for great

Sounds real good!

Except for this noise.
It only happens under load, in any forward fear, let off gas it goes away. Doesn't do it in neutral.

Stethoscope test by coworker sounds like it was coming from the transmission dust shield. Took it off. No signs of rubbing, noise is still there without it. Flexplate bolts are all tight. No signs of scraping.

Going to put it back up on the hoist tomorrow on lunch.

If the flexplate is a B&M, then it cannot crack like a factory one, and should be good.
I really don't think that sound is internal. But I could be wrong. It doesn't seem to be muffled.
Maybe, just for the heck of it, check the crank end-play.
Also, might want to check with the stethescope, the engine oilpan, above the liquid line; maybe the windage tray is singing, or rattling on the pan.

It's a kevko pan with a built in windage tray.

With the stethoscope it defiantly is coming from the torque converter area.

Thanks for the ideas.

Well that doesn't sound good. Unless the pump is suppose to make that much noise.

The bigger the slots in the pump drive hub the more it has that slop. Its normal for that once started & making pressure its loaded one way only.

Anything else to check while the transmission is out. Found nothing wrong. Everything was tight and clear of danger.

Not to argue but to me that does not sound like the pump slots. It seems to be taking a lot of rotation to initiate the rattle, way more than I have ever seen.Look how far he rotates it, like 2 inches! And the tone and timber is off for a pump, to my thinking.
I would pop that TC off there, inspect the slot wear.
Then I would check the stator and turbine splines.I can't see it being the turbine, nor the stator, but what else could it be? The sig says 727, so there's no loc-up clutch.
If it is the pump slots, how long can that go on before either the pump or the hub, shatters?
Maybe the stator clutch?
Or a failed hub. I think they are riveted in.

I wish I had another 727 converter to try. I have a 904 with 2 stock converters and they didn't make the noise.

The converter doesn't make the noise on the ground turning it with a scraper.

I could take the pump apart and check the gears.

Are you sure the TC is properly and fully seated? Perhaps pull the TC and see if you can turn the pump by some other means to see if it is there. Then turn the hub inside the TC.

Torque converter is all the way seated. The pump sounds fine when turned with a flat head. Definitely coming from inside the converter. Although I can't duplicate the noise with the converter out.

Again, if the "Windows" in the converter hub are excessively big a 1/4 inch slop in them will look like about 2 inches out at the end of the converter. A good reputable t.c. builder will use hardened narrow as possible window drive hubs. Had a buddy not get it seated all the way once. It busted the pump lug ears rite off about 5 minutes after he started the engine. Ive had em with no balloon plates expaned enough to pop off pump lugs. There wasn't enough clearance left when converter was bolted to the engine. Put the hub to deep. Im not saying somthing isnt wrong internally with converter, but with loose pump Windows it will sound and move like that.

I know id be a pain in the butt. But can you bolt up a flywheel bell housing & starter to isolate tje transmission all together? If you have any that stuff available?

I do have a flywheel and bellhousing that I could bolt up and run it.
