Pipe dream motor swap: What would you bolt into your A-Body?

Just to avoid crazy responses like a "3000 horsepower R-2800-8 Wasp engine" from a P-47 Thunderbolt har har har" or something out of a top fuel dragster, let's limit the discussion to engines that would:

A) actually fit (possibly with some significant fabrication)
B) actually work in the car for how you drive it or how you would like to drive it in the future.

PS: specified "motor" since electric propulsion (which aren't "engines") shouldn't be left off of the table here.

a 500 hp, aluminum headed 440 with tr6060 6 speed................. oh wait, I'm already doing that :lol:



If I had the desire to go thru it again, I might try a Cummins ISB 6BT swap but that thing weighs half a ton and is HUGE. It could be made to fit but the back 3 cylinders would be next to the drivers knees. and you'd be forced to run a cowl induction hood or no hood at minimum. But the torque and power of that thing propels 8000 pound pickups into the low 10s, imagine the speeds in something half as light and the fuel economy would be huge, driven conservatively of course.
 
Or the tried and true well built Slant Six.( Kinda got a thing for them)

fkldkv, Hot Rod magazine once asked me to do a Dart with a Cummins. I told them if they supplied all the parts I would,,,,Never heard from them again......

You could go the 4BT route to save weight and space!!
 
For the street : 4.0L/258 inline stroked to 271 cu.in. with a hydrolic overdrive trans , optional Pro-charger set at 9 lbs. of boost . Out back 8.75/9" with 3.50 r&p . Modern wiring , take this puppy on a road trip of a lifetime . Dual purpose : 6.1L Hemi , overdrive trans., 3.90-4.10 r&p , a fun ride . Serious effort race only : Indy/Ray Barton 427 small block , 727TF manual with brake , 9"/Dana with spool , 12pt. cage . Run car in index classes , either 11.50 or 12.00 pro start . I got a million of 'em .

Wow. There's already way more interest in diesels than I ever would have guessed. You can't argue with the insane torque...I do get it. But that sound! ugh. :D
 
I think I'd have to vote for the 5.2L flat plane crank Voodoo engine from the Shelby GT350 with a Tremec 6060, 4.10 final drive.

Yeah, I know...it's a Ferd but this is an insanely great engine and it fits my vision for a wild, high winding V8 with a screaming exhaust note that rewards high rpm shifts and keeping those revs sky-high all the time.

It pushes the 3800lb Mustang to low 12s, it ought to be mid 11s in the Dart (~600lbs lighter).

I used to build diesel pulling trucks. One was in 8 lug magazine and Diesel Power magazine.
 
I just want a tunnel rammed, FI Tech topped, 408 with a Passon 5 speed in my next Duster. Likely a Dana 60 rear too.

Twin turbo/EFI on a 500 inch low deck KB hemi, running e85/methanol and street drivable. Working towards that by building a 470 wedge to start with, will upgrade eventually.
 
Im actually looking to get a Hellcat from Houston flood. Into my 66 it will go. Sourced one already, haggling the price.
 
i have a 1962 dodge lancer 2 door sedan with a 340, 727 ,3:55 8 3/4 and several other mods and it is very fast for a car that weighs 3k.
