What kind of paint are you all using on your suspension, steering, and brake parts?

there were different paint and cosmoline coatings.
...some parts were left bare metal or "as cast"

Powder coated all parts.

...excellent!
I used RPM for all bare metal and cast parts...it still looks o.k. after 3 years.

This stuff is fantastic if you dont have access to powedercoating.

Black appliance paint almost like powder coating.

Interesting...I know that is made for indoor appliances, does it hold up to the outside elements? Might have to give that a try.

I am doing a little painting on my calipers and spindles - used the black VHT on the calipers which is a pretty nice hard paint (I think it has some epoxy in it) and supposedly cures harder as they heat up from brake use. I used the Seymour Cast Blast on my spindles and hubs- really like the cast color but not sure of the durability. I am still deciding on what color to paint my other suspension parts - probably black or gray!

I was thinking of using Seymour's Cast Blast as well. Out of all the spray paints I've researched, it seems to have the most authentic/realistic "cast" color and finish.

Krylon "Tough Rust" semi-flat black is almost a 100% match for any surviving paint on any of my 60's and 70's Mopars.

I like the "bare metal" look but I hate for them to rust so quickly.

that is why i treated all bare metal with RPM, it prevents rust.
If you decide to try metal or cast iron paint make sure you clear coat it because they put cast iron powder in the paint and the paint will rust.

I use Rustoleum oil based enamel gloss black. I thin it 10-15% with acetone and spray it out of my paint gun, using a 1.8 tip.

Works really well.

I used Tractor Supply paint on my K frame and some of the suspension. I don't think it's much different then Rustoleum oil based enamel except they offer a catalyst for it. I used it on my trailer and it's held up well to that abuse so I figured why not. Typical of most oil based/alkyd enamels it's not the shiniest stuff once cured.

I've had very good results with POR15 on motorcycle frames and suspension parts. It stops rust, and cures very hard, like an epoxy. Not cheap, however.

I go simple, black engine enamel. Holds up well...I may try to duplicate the factory finish on my GTS suspension, but the other cars will be black.

Your parts look awesome! It must have cost a pretty penny. I have 4 A-bodies so powder coating, unfortunately, is way out of my budget. I have to admit... they do look sharp!
Find a local hobbyist powder coater. I have been powder coating for about 12 years now. I started out with a kitchen oven in my garage and a $100 Eastwood powder coating gun. I guess a lot of people started out like that. I now have a 3' x 3' x 6' oven. But it is still a hobby to me. I do some coating for others; all word of mouth. I usually only charge about half as much as the pros, since I don't rely on the income. Anyway, my point is that if you find a local guy like me who does good work and has good prices, powder coating may not be out of budget.
