Poll - How far away from home do you drive your classic?

-
My old man's now deceased 360 '72 Duster made more than a few trips to South Carolina, Tennessee, and one trip to Florida, all from Upstate NY.

From San Diego to fresno 620 mile round trip. Also drive it to ridgecrest,Julian, Venice... plus in town driving.

The only issues I've ever had with it were the carb spacer gasket leaking one time, a needle and seat twice, and a power steering hose popped one day- 21.99... I limped it to an autozone and they had the hose 2 hrs later.

They're cars, meant to be driven and get you where you wanna go.... just faster.

-- That's how far my insurance company will pay for towing if I break down. Lol --
-- Get AAA . --- AAA Premium will pay for a 200 mile tow, plus a couple 100 mile tows each year. -- I've only used it once. a few miles from home, for The 33. -- But it's cheap insurance.

Last year at drag week I drove the 71 Dart 1,000 miles over 5 days. Also made five 1/4 mile passes. Made me very nervous but the car didn't skip a beat. We'll see how she does this year.
I envied your dependability!

Took mine 400 mile rd trip a couple weeks ago with a new slant and auto trans . Ran great, next trip is to the smokey mountains pulling my bike which is about a 800 mile one way trip.

It depends, 8 hrs (500 miles) and back in my '71 Fury was great, but then I went through some electrical and charging gremlins, and I'm not sure how I feel. And I hate to say and maybe jinx myself!

So far, 320 miles round trip from Topeka to a car show in McPherson, Kansas. Well worth it since I got 3rd place in my class (65-72).

I drove my 68 cuda with a pumped up 318 4 speed 3.55 gears all over northern Ca. I was havin too much fun with that 4 speed and developed a rod nock. When its all back together I'm gonna drive the hell out of it. San Jose to LA is about 450 miles, so that grape vine climb will really be the test. :)

Longest trip I’ve made in any of my
Mopars so far has been a 5 hour one way drive up to Ashland, Oregon in my Challenger. But I drove that car all over the place in the 70k miles I put on it. Just visiting my family is a little over 1.5 hours each way, I do that about once a month or so in my Duster now. I think my longest drive in my Duster so far was about 3 hours one way. No reason I wouldn’t drive it further, just haven’t had a reason to yet.

Longest trip I’ve done in a classic was in my ‘56 Austin Healey. I drove it over 1,100 miles one way from Northern California to the Silver Star ski resort outside of Vernon, British Columbia. It was a West Coast chapter Austin Healey meet, so I drove it 1,100 miles in 2 days, autoX’d it at the meet, then drove it 1,100 miles home over 2 days again. I made a few trips from NorCal to LA in that car as well when I was in college, that was usually a 6 or 7 hour drive depending on traffic. Of course I got towed home a couple times doing that too, but what the hell, that happens sometimes if you drive them like that.

Even from new my car never went more than 300 miles from home, in 2009 just a year after finishing the restoration I took the car to Oregon. The trip started up the California coast and continued up the coast into Oregon where I visited with a couple friends and went by Mount Hood and back through the eastern part of the state. The trip was a total of about 2200 miles. I was all set to do it again this summer but plans changed making the Barracuda a less practical choice.

I guess the farthest I have driven it was from Downey, CA (my house) to San Diego, CA which is a 224 mile round trip. No problems!

If it had an overdrive, I would easily take it to San Francisco or even Las Vegas just for fun.

About an hour to hour and half each way.
4.10 gear keeps it from being a lot more.

I used to have 4.10 gears. Fun on the street, but very tiresome on the highway. Makes it not very fun to drive on the highway.

Agreed. Thats why I'm not going with that kind of gear once I put together my 8 3/4. Probably no more than 3:23 for me. Heck, my 2:94 gear feels like it rev'ing on the e-way. Kinda loud exhaust makes it feel that way. I need a tack to see though.

When you say New, did you buy that car brand new?

My grandparents purchased the car new December 8, 1966, I got the car in 1985. They never left the Southern California area (north to Monterey and Mojave areas), prior to the restoration I took it to Bishop once and Las Vegas a few times.

Very cool!

I drove my dart 1hr to the Syracuse nationals and back home 1hr. 4.86 gears, spool, 8” 4600 stall turbo action. Stayed off the highway. It was fun fun fun!

Drove my '69 from Vista CA to Fontana Ca and back, 80 miles one way. 408 with a 727 and 3:23 gears. Less then 9 MPG. 91 Oct. fuel.

3.23 won't cut it for me.
