Bored searching the net, I came across a pretty cool engine swap. A guy shoved a Toyota mark 4 Supra engine and trans into a 71 Scamp. Got me thinking pretty hard about what all would have to be done. After a few hours of searching I ended up with a lot of information like engine width, length, transmission options, ecu and rear sump setup. Did a bunch smashing away on a calculator and came up with a grand total of 5 thousand dollars. 2500 for the engine trans ecu and harness.....obviously a 7 1/4 won’t work.....Ford Exploder rear end, and Knick knack junk. So for about 5 grand I could have a 500 plus hp Early abody with tons of aftermarket options. Has anyone on here done this?

How would you feel seeing one?
And if anyone would be interested in a 2JZ swap how too because the guy I found said it just drops right in with minimal modifications. Didn’t even have to reshape the trans tunnel. I have already made the deposit for the engine and it should be here in a few months. Engine has about 60k miles on it with a bigger turbo, aftermarket headers, adjustable cam gears, stage 2 clutch, and a few other mods.

Here are two examples I’ve found. The only ones I have been able to locate at all.

I wouldn't do it, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea! I'd rather this than an LS swap. Lots of room along the sides would be a bonus. Stuff like this is how hot rodding started!

That’s most of the reason why I’m going to do it. Everyone is LS Swapping everything from lawnmowers to Porsche to even Smart Cars. If I want to do an LS swap I have a 2001 Mazda Miata for that. I know the aftermarket is there for LS but.... why follow the crowd!?!?!

My first thought upon reading was "Heresey!"... After seeing the clean installation the mathematics of the potential power to weight ratio starts to look really appealing. It may not be a popular viewpoint but I like it better than a slant six, but not quite as much as the thought of modifying a 3.9 magnum V-6...

that’s the goal. It’s all aluminum, and don’t get me wrong. I love the slant. Where I live I’m guaranteed to be the only one at the local meets. It’s different. I can turbo the one I have right now, and not sweat it. I have everything to do it with. But comes the weight..... and I know it’ll take it. Local guy drove a d100 for months knocking like all hell..... 18 miles a day to and from work. I’m going to keep one valiant with the slant, but the other will be my Mootang and Slowmaro beater. I do have a 360 bottom end with no heads yet.... but with all the modifications and header issues.... I dont want to hack up the engine bay..... that’s nerve racking in itself for me

I used to have a beater 73 d100 \6 with np435, 2wd. Ugly as hell. Almost no two body panels the same color... That would have been all kinds of fun with a 2-JZ swap and an a833 and a 3/4 ton dana... Redneck Roddin!

That would have been epic! I like being different. Would have cost an arm and a leg for the adapter plate for that setup but it could possibly be done. I live in middle Tennessee and not a truck guy, but if I would have heard a blow off valve and engine bouncing off the rev limiter thrashing through the woods id have been going redneck for a few!

There was a member here putting a Neon SRT4 engine in an early dart. Don’t think he ever finished it. I think I saw it up for sale here a while back.

I did look into that as well but again never saw an actual finished project. Always wondered what happened to that thing....

Deemo, I'm the one who swapped the Scamp in 2013. There is some build progress/threads here on FABO. It's not a super hard swap but you will need to fab mounts/brackets/exhaust, etc. I've gotten tons of flack on the car and been called names, etc. But all in all the car works great as a complete Pro Touring car that makes over 700 hp and still can get 23 mpg. I used a Lexus SC300 mid/rear sump pan on the stock slant K member, and a TA Pitman and Idler to give a little more pan clearance. No real hacking and cutting of the car BUT due to the stock K-Member requirement, (budget), we did have to get creative with radiator clearance. We used a 92 Supra pin mount radiator and fabbed the lower rad support so it would drop in. Thin Flex-A-Lite twin fans keep it cool. It also has a Vintage Air condensor in front. If you have a Dart you have way more room! The car is "Hellcat" fast and Lexus smooth. Haters can hate and they WILL, but most folks can't do a swap like this on their own. ;)

If you need help I'm in Detroit and I'll send you my contact info via PM.

IMO if I were attached to that engine I think I'd just build a targa top supra.

what is this , tokyo drift , well that was a stang . turbo'd twin cam'd l6 in a early a body should kick some doors to the curb . you'll need better brakes , lol !

Except for the lack of aftermarket support, I've always wondered why nobody uses the 239 pre magnum and magnum engines in place of slant six builds even though it would take some mount to K-frame fabrication. I once had an 1989 pre magnum six in a very porky W150 long wheelbase 4X4 and it was way ahead on torque at any point from idle on compared to any slant I've owned. A set of cheap small block truck 318 headers with a tube cut off of each side worked very well, and MP offered a manifold at one time. The cam would have to be sent for a regrind, though, as all where rollers. If one got brave and creative, taking a combustion chamber off the ends of a set of aluminum small block heads would be doable... There would be plenty of room for turbos with a v-6 in place in an a body though.

long l6 cranks more easy torquers with a turbo its a monster . but a 318 with alloy heads intake with a turbo . thats going to kick alot of doors off . and a fairly lite package as well . i think if your troubling to change mounts and tranny a v8 that fits is already a plus . and if its more inch's wanted , thats just a stroke away as well

I will be using a 92 3.9 Magnum/A500 in my 47 Dodge project instead of the OE 230 flathead 6. No K Frame but there will definitely be some fabrication involved.

I think you need to remove all 'Toyota' identification from the engine and convince people it's a turbo'd Aussie 'Hemi 6'

There was a guy in Canada that did a 1jz swap with a Toyota truck 5spd and rear end into a ‘64 Vailiant. He also did a swap to struts up front and I believe coilovers in the rear. I’ve entertained the thought of the swap you’re doing to be different and for the power. It would be a ton of fun to drive!
